So I have both a scroll that is unknown to me in my inventory, as well as the wand of identify, but for some reason I can't seem to use the wand of identify when I drag it to the use bottom at the bottom right. Am I missing something? Could anyone tell me how I can identify the scroll by using the wand?
To identify a magic item you right click to bring context menu and find Inventory/Wands/Wand of Identify and click, after which inventory screen will be shown to pick item to identify. The process (Identify spell casting) costs 100 gp. Wand of a spell can be used by PC who can potentially learn that spell spell like Wizard or Sorcerer.
Thank you for your quick reply! Unfortunately I keep getting a message whenever I right click on the item in my character's inventory, it says: "Item transfer error There is no room for that item" Could you tell me what I might be doing wrong?
Close Inventory screen to bring normal game world view; Right click on Player Character, who have the Wand; Follow steps above.
Hmm, when I do that, and I go to inventory, I don't see another option to select wands. I did use the console to create the wand of identify, and the warmage (from Temple +) who has the wand does not have that spell himself. Is that the reason why it does not show up? Or is there perhaps another reason?
Ah hold on, I figured out the reason. It is because their classes cannot cast the identify spell, so they can't use the wand either. At least, I believe that is the case?
No. The message would be something to indicate that UMD failed for any class that can't automatically use the wand. Here's a screenshot of what anatoliy was referring to: It will then bring up the inventory after which you click on an item. Scrolls can also be identified with a read magic spell, which is much cheaper.
Ah got it! But none of my characters are able to use the Wand of Identify. That means that their classes don't have access to the Identify spell, so they can't use that wand in the first place right?
This will be correct. Unless you invest skill points into UMD skill (use magic device) after which you would have a chance to use the wand. The umd threshold is 20 for a wand (iirc) and the character would roll current UMD score (with various bonus/negatives) + d20. ...ie, even 1 point of UMD could see success eventually with enough tries, especially in non-combat. Edit: note that UMD requires at least 1 point invested to work, unlike many other skills.
