A question, i recently got the ToEE modpack by CO8, and it's great but i have a question. I got into a gigantic fight in the guard house north of the entrance to the temple, and the commander there did something unusual. He moved, trip attacked my sorceress, then attacked again to score a sneak attack, then attacked AGAIN when the sorceress tried to stand up, scoring another hit... Is this even possible? no matter how i think on it i come up with the computer cheating, if someone could explain it i would be most appreciative... mostly because it's a really nice tactic that i want to use for myself if i can work out how.
This is indeed possible and by the rules. After a successful trip against a target, the improved trip feat allows you to immediately attack that target during the same round. Additionally, getting up from prone after being tripped provokes an attack of opportunity by an opponent standing next to you.
Bugbears like to use this tactic too (minus the sneak attack, since I don't think any of them are rogues). It counts as a sneak attack when the target's prone because he doesn't get his dexterity bonus to AC.
