hello. im new to this community and have a question which concerns the movies not playing during both the regular TOEE game and now the KoTB mods. i open it from the frontend thing on my desktop no prob and both games are running fine. the movies(title screen, start of the tutorial, basically anything that has the voice over with the text at the bottom of the screen) aren't playing though. i can hear the sounds, but nothing is visible on screen until the "main menu" screen appears on either version of the game(s). grabbed (Gaear's new movies v2) and extracted it to my TOEE root folder and am hoping this will remedy the problem.suggestions are appreciated.
What are your system specs? If you're using Vista, I've seen posts stating that some video issues on Vista systems can be fixed by installing the Rad/Bink video player. If you aren't using Vista, or that doesn't help, I'm not sure what else to try (other than the generic response of "total reinstall.") [Edit] - I see in another thread you are using Win XP. I'd still find and d/l the Rad Video codec and player just to see if that helps.
"Its BINK, Jim, but not as we know it". Not sure what to say (if you are using XP) excpt that TFE-X has a completely different way of handling the game than the older ToEE-FE, and doesn't use the communal 'movies' folder anymore, so no, thats not it. If the movies are playng but there is no picture, it certainly sounds like your hardware has a codec or driver issue.
thanx for tryin to help.things is,b4 i installed KoTB,the movies worked fine as the stand-alone ToEE install.so something got mixed up after the install.i did download and install rad tools. didnt seem to help.is there a specific directory it should be installed in? i installed it to c/progam files/rad video, which was the default suggested folder after i d/led it.other than that,i dont know what went wrong. both games are working ok so far, just cant see the movies/cutscenes even though you can see the text and hear the audio (the atari thing, beginning movie,etc..) which is choppy for some reason.(again after installing KoTB which cuts in and out, until the title screen, then everything's fine) pretty sure my video driver is the latest, so i dont think its that either. i dont know if its a screen resolution thing or what it is. i am running it 1024 x 768 res. its not thats its unplayable, just annoying. i'd rather not have to uninstall/reinstall it as i'd probably screw that up,and it was a little tricky to get it to finally work. hopefully someone here knows the exact solution.i do appreciate any suggestions though in the meantime.
b.t.w. heres my specs...i do have problems with the dxdiag as it applies to direct draw and those other 2 tests. i'm not using a standard monitor, but an hdtv through the vga port. some of the direct draw and 3d tests jumps to a blue "no signal" screen, like its on a differant input or something.all my other games work alright though,so i dont think thats it either. ha! figured it out. i was thinkin "ok the movies run on bink or rad or whatever, and the one dude (t.y. shining ted) mentioned something about a codec"...so outta curiousity, i went and downloaded the bink & smacker tools + codec from here:http://www.free-codecs.com/download/RAD_Video_Tools.htm - then i ran and installed it to default folder. this is my theory...somewhere during the installation of KoTB ( which i am enjoying muchly so far) it overwrote the original rad video codec? i had in my root ToEE folder, rendering it impotent in regards to the new mod and ToEE altogether. the new installation has reversed this process, now everythings works great. thanks for the help. got me thinking anyway...maybe this will help someone out in the future who stumbles across this bump in the road.
oh and the mod itself, its pretty hard for lvl 1 toons. lol. should i be using more than 5 peeps in my party probly? guessing yes.
Glad you got it going, but the codec idea was voiced by Erkper half an hour before me Btw, which mod is hard - the Co8 version or KotB?
not impossible or anything. it was kinda crazy when we were all lvl 1 and got attacked by a pack of jackals, each with 3 or 4 attacks per round, each with like 3-4 (or was it 5-6) hit dice apiece.my party of 5 is almost all to lvl 3 now. i'm in the swamp figting lizard men with missle weapons. too bad i dont have a ranger with missle weapon feats...currently relying on my cleric's magic stone spell to get me through. is it just me or are there a lack of missle weapon venders in the keep? (ammo purposes) is it possible to go back to the beggining area with the caravan? thanx to erkper for the codec idea. the game runs pretty well,it has only crashed to desktop like twice.both times in the keep if that means anything.one suggestion i have is to make the board in the provisioner's workshop a little easier to find,or perhaps be able to highlight it with tab key. took me forever to stumble upon that. other than that,it's rad.(no pun intended) i am enjoying it very much.
are you or anyone else here working on any other old school mods (palace of the silver princess,or the isle of dread, etc) using the TOEE engine at all? do you have to get permission to do these mods? is it difficult to make them, or not too bad like the neverwinter tool set? just curious. and yes, shining ted, the junk is just that, i agree.
