    Hi, everyone

I've reinstalled my ToEE a few days ago and thought to myself - it's buggy as hell as I remember it. I tried my old saves and I thought - this is so difficult to progress in any way.
Here's the story - I'm not accustomed to DnD style of gaming and the turn-based combat is just not for me, hence I suck at this game (Arcanum god, tho...). I have only managed to squeeze into the earth temple's 3rd quest (the saves are from 2005... @_@) and am stuck at the juggernaut. The enemy is too tough for me - I can only get him to like 123 damage deal (all help to only Elmo, but then he dies)... I have no clue on how to beat this monster - I've beat everyone in the room though, except him.

My question is this: can I just flee combat? (there is an option, but ANYWHERE in the game I use it - I get the message "Invalid action". If it's invalid - why even put it in there???). When I've run from the enemy (the juggernaut) 10 miles - it still doesn't work. I'm not even followed... <_<. He can't get to me. (often times the game loads a save where you're facing enemies, but the action is paused (no battle music or anything) and I think if I saved when I've run away from an enemy and reload the save - it could possibly work.
My second question is this: does the 5.5.0 mod pack fix this problem? I ask for the button to work, nothing else. I want to flee from combat - hell if I lose anything I leave behind, but at this point I CAN'T continue and enjoy the game. Q_Q

    PLEASE HELP

Try sending one of your party out of the room then have him try to flee.
I would recommend installing the latest mod from Co8 and starting a new game,
lot's has been fixed and lot's more content added.

Well, I tried running away from it with the whole party right back to the entrance, but the flee thing didn't work.
I'll try with one then o_O...
I did try out the mod once, but I didn't understand how to use it (it has 2 selection of the game prefferences there (I presume moded and unmoded), but I'll try again). I'll try again.

What content? Was there unused content like in Arcanum mods?

EDIT: Well fuck that, it doesn't work. Might as well try the patch again... <_<

P.S. Could you tell me where or who I could contact to maybe get more info? Maybe it's fixed with the mod. Who's the top guy here?

There's a few circle of eight guys wandering around here from time to time. The 2 I see most is Shiningted and Graer. Don't look for them. They'll find you.

Thanks, I'll wait till they see this thread.

I opened up the mod front end and I'm baffled by the stupidity here: insert disk. <_< WHAT? I mean, the 2.0 no cd is always considered as a virus for me (saw a thread on it, but I couldn't find directions on how to fix this) and even if I decide to exclude it from the list - it still holds the exe as a threat. All this time I thought it was garbage.
Bit Defender 2009 is seriously TOO protective.

I did all this, but I'm disappointed... =(

First of all - I don't know whats with the all new start, people walking, new dialogs and etc. The combat fleeing is still a broken pile of shit. Is that gonna be fixed?
By the way, could I get some sort of log file I could read up on the content? I'd like to know what is altered and what is just uncovered content (like in left out somewhere from the original files).
I'd really love to get my old saves to work. Supposedly it backs them up and etc, but they don't work and I don't want to start over since I want to progress.

I think the flee combat only works during the 1st round of combat, sorta if you walk in on monsters that you know are way too tough or something. But, if you run away from a monster, like the one your talking about where you dont see them and they dont see you, if you just keep guarding/whatever while you cant see the monster, then combat should end after awhile, I'm not sure how many rounds you have to do this but I know it works in other areas like emridy meadows (I've done that when I've turned the undead and they all flee in different directions) after so many rounds of not fighting it just ends the combat. Let me know if that works for you.

Well the saves don't work for me now, since I'm trying out the mod, but it didn't work here nor there (unmodded). The enemy doesn't even have a place in the fighting round even - it's just me and elmo and we're skipping the turns, unseen, at the end of the map and you can do this all day... <_<. These are the bugs that should've taked the #1 spot to fix, since I could get by mostly anything without encountering any glitch or bug in the original run that I played in 2005. I just don't get it.
Is there like a part of you modders here that just specialises in fixing the 3.0 patch and later? I don't care so much about new stuff in ToEE, since I don't wanna go back to square one - I just want to finish the damn thing. Completing the final quest for the temple should get me to a plane (earth or w/e) and then the ending I guess. It just pisses me off I can't edit the game myself, though I'd gladly join any team that is willing to give me some easily editable stuff for myself.

We dont recommend installing patch 3 if you read the instructions.

There are a lot of flaws in the core coding of game that we are unable to change. Sometimes these situations occur, along with corrupt saves, and there is nothing we can do to help. We always suggest having multiple saves so if one becomes corrupt you can load another.

    Yeah, I read that.

But the saves are like this: unmodded (patch 3.0) they work fine, but this mod took them, backed-up/converted them and when I try to use this - they don't work.

I'd pay the developers the price of the game again if they could just patch it up again... <_< Actually, it should be like this - they pay me the money for giving me a broken game.

Atari patch 3 is not compatible with any co8 mods in anyway, shape, or form. A "vanilla" original game ran from the cd(noTFE-X) with patch 3 will work. If using co8 mods re-patch with patch 2 or do a new install and just patch to patch 2. If things are corrupt, then it's usually best to do a new install. It's a long story that goes back 4 years but atari patch 3 serves no useful purpose. The files co8 uses are much better.

As for the saves working with 1.0 to 3.0 I'd take the unmodded version, since TFEX doesn't really fix what I think is wrong in the first place. :/ no offense, but the glitch where my chars can't run away from a helpless monster just takes the cake - the only thing I actually ask for anyone to fix. This is a 5th generation release (5.5.0) and noone has yet to point out that this flaw still plagues this unf***ingbelievable game... <_<
I personally can't believe the game is beatable in this unworking condition. If so - who's beaten the game in 1.0? 2.0? 3.0? Noone ever had any complaints (I hear all whoop-dee-doo people bragging on how the game is supposed to be too easy) about the flee thing? Really?
Because I made it even that far (with all the crap it threw at me) I think it's as far as the game goes without collapsing onto itself...
I'm just completely negative on this now, since it's too frustrating to play even a minute of it.
Sure, other games like Diablo 1 & 2 have their share of stupidity, but this one is just a plain crime...

    Yikes.
I don't know what to say flee combat has always worked for me.
There are some maps you can't use it on, but I can't see not being able to run away in anyway stopping you from finishing the game.

Remember playing toee is supposed to be fun.
If it's causing you to get stressed out I suggest maybe you should just accept the fact you are never going to finish those saved games and move on with your life.

    troop18546,

OK first of all, you're probably going to be insulted by what I write here, and for that I apologize in advance. I just want to be direct and blunt to make my points:

You are always welcome to play the game however you want, no one is ever going to force you to use the Co8 mod.

Have you tried doing a search relating to fleeing combat? The issue has been brought up many times in the past, and if you'd checked to see what was said before (or even read closely what has been said to you) you would have found that the flee combat thing has always been buggy: occasionally it works, most of the time it doesn't, and the mechanism for controlling when you can or can't flee are apparently buried so deep in the game engine (which Co8 does not have the source code to easily modify) that it will probably never be something that can be "fixed."

I personally can't believe you find the flee issue such a game-stopping problem. As I said above, the issue has been raised many times as a proper search would show you, and the general conclusion is that it will work in some circumstances but it is not something that is moddable under the current restrictions. If you can get the source code from Atari, let us know - then we might be able to do something about it. And for the record, I have beaten this game under every version of the Co8 mod from 3.0.4 to current - I never beat it without the Co8 mods, as the original game came with too many legit game-breaking bugs for me - but others have beat it even in vanilla.

I'm sorry you are having problems with your game. As others have pointed out, your old saves are not compatible with the Co8 modded version, and you will never be able to resume your old game under the Co8 mod. The mod just changes too many things for this to be possible. If you want some advice on how to beat the Juggernaut, give us your party breakdown and we might be able to help you win that fight without needing to flee. (Of course, that would only be possible if you resumed playing in the non-Co8 modded game...)
