SO... I was wondering. Everone knows of (if not watched) the Old DnD Cartoon where the regular kids got sucked into the DnD world... Have you ever created a Party based on your real world Family and/or Friends? If So... what was it like? I'll start: Of course, they all have to be human... no half-orcs in OUR world... (I won't disclose full names) Edit: The story is Zuggy took one of my daughters for her own reasons and my friends were over at my house playing PnP DnD and we just "tagged along" on the rift but as soon as Zuggy was back in the Temple her portal ended dropping us- unceremoniously on the counrtyside. Naturally there would have to have been a benevelent Lord and/or Mage nearby who happened to want to trade modern knowledge for some basic training and a few gold and language classes... In order of the way I have them on the Party Bar... Male Cleric - My friend "T" NG -- T has generally bad Stats, Wisdom being his best at about a 12 or 13- He is a slightly mentally challenged friend of mine who has been a great gamer for over 12 years in my PnP games- very loyal and creative enough in game play- He's in front because we would put our best Armor on him- chain to begin with and a shield - At 4th level he goes Fighter for a few- then back and forth. Male Monk - My friend "L" LG -- L is a BIG guy, pretty strong too- not a great Endurance though- so he doesn't get a 16- just a 14 on strength which matches his pretty good Dex- I'd prefer him as a Ranger- but he likes the no weapon fighting Monk... L is probably NG in real life but would go LG over LN for the Monk Female Rogue - My wife "N" True N -- N is not a gamer at all and the only way she would "go" is if I put into the story that Zuggy stole our daughter- the youngest of my 4 -that would give her the motivation. And she would do just about anything to succeed, hence the Truen Nuetral alighnment-she alternates between Rogue and Fighter. She would DESTROY Zuggy at the end, painfully. That's my front 3 Then: Male Mage- Me "M" NG -- I like the versatility and really- at about 4th level and up the amount of spells are sufficient so that Sorcerer is NOT a necessity... that being said... Male Sorcerer- My friend "E" CG -- E is all about power and winning and being better than everyone else- sometimes to the annoyance of other party members- but he does have the best Charisma next to my wife -so this fits him, too bad that later in our development the extra spell slots won't be important... Female Ranger- My daughter "K" CG -- K is all about animals and the bow- her decent Dex helps with her "To Hit" and she only has about an 8 STR (she's only 14 years old) K DOES game with me- of my 4 daughters I call her "Jr" -she's the second of the 4. She naturally specialized in Archery at 2nd level and right off the bat takes her two level 1 Feats in Point Blank Shot and then Presice Shot- for some one with a 8 STR she does well to start out with one of the best "To Hits"! Along the way we pick up and keep Fruella- she is an awesome Tank! And Meleny- she stays Druid and is left behind when Escort quests slots are needed. Fruella marries "T" and Meleny marries "L" Bertram marries "E" - Hey I got to mess with him a bit! Fruella moves into the 2nd spot to be near her hubby as a Tank team and Meleny goes into slot 4 next to "L"- her hubby- suprisingly she Does NOT die much at all... as a matter of a fact None that I can remember- the 3 tanks in front of her and my wife as a semi-tank behind her is a good set up. Well- there is my "Real World Cross-over Game Group" What's yours like? Remember you don't have to give all the Stats for each member but it is fine to mention important ones like the fact that "T"s highest Stat is a 12 or 13 and that NO one in the group has anything over a 15 to begin with- "L"s Con and Int and "N"s Dex and Chr and my Int are the only ones of those. Consider this for a Sticky and lets hear those Groups!
Remember. our D&D group was at Texas A&M in the late '70's. My group was from Cepheid Variable, the Sci Fi / Fantasy student organization. There were also a lot of players in the Corps of Cadets and among the science and engineering majors. After we ran through the tests, almost everyone was a wizard. Members of the Corps tended to be forced to be warriors. In fact the low physical stats caused several of the players to head down to the gym. Everyone got real good at that standing on one foot thing, since that can be practiced and learned, just like real world dexterity. The age-based wisdom thing was very crippling. We had to make a special arrangement for that. Since real world people aren't very good warriors, we had to be more circumspect in our battles, and make use of terrain and tactics. Which actually made the game a lot more fun. Nowadays my stats are still pretty good, with my lowest stat a 13 in constitution. And, at last, I'm old enough to have a sood wisdom score. My 3rd Dan black belt and (ancient) veteran status with the GA would probably make me a monk. I'm not sure what to do about prior military service, 5 years as a engineer, or 21 years as a math instructor. My 18 year old son is an Eagle Scout - definitely ranger. He has some of his mom's musical talent and wants to be a writer - bard. And was on his high school wrestling team for three years and is an Angel - monk.
HAVE PUN, WILL TRAVEL After giving it some thought (okay, very little), I'm thinking: I decided to determine the level by taking the number of years spent at an activity and divide by 2.(Changed to divide by 5) ME: LN (not really, I think) Human Fighter 4 (GA + Army, further reducing GA because it's rarely more the 10 hr/wk) Monk 3 (17 years karate + GA training) Mage 4 (21 years Math Instructor, arcane enough and Calculus IS magic) SON: LN (more than me) Human Ranger 1 (Eagle Scout, 10 years in scouting, twice at Philmont) Monk 1 (3 years on wrestling team + 1 year in GA) Bard 0 (writing music at age 7, Cello for 3 years, now a bassist) Tracking down roving gangs of brigands and marauders, and, with the help of locals, meting out justice. :wyatt:
Naturally I start all my characters in a "Crossover" TOEE game at 1st level, but if I did take levels into consideration I'd personally probably be: Rogue 2nd - Grew up in a bad neighborhood, poor and I have always liked locks and their inability to stop me... I've matured but you never forget.. Fighter 1st - 8 Years Army has to be good for something, right? the 6 months in Karate doesn't hurt, but Monk would be years away- those who can do that thing have my respect and admiration. On "Crossover" I'd train Mage My wife would probably just be 1st level Fighter for her street time in NYC but man she has a kickin Dex (I'd say 15 or 16) so she'd start training as a Rogue- I could help her a bit...
8 years active duty? Infantry? An E5, or a specialist, could easily be fighter 3. Monk 1 would be about 6 months of karate.
Aviation, E5 But at least I kept in shape - Fighter 1 for me. 6 months of Karate with a great Sensei- 30 years ago doesn't count though- but I did learn control and how to fall with a punch and a good leg sweep that I kept...
