i just noticed that my halfling doesn't get a +1 to attack with his sling. does anone know of a way to fix this without a .dll hack?
AFAIK things like that need a hack. I guess you could try to create a +1 sling or something to console in, but no idea whether that's a good solution for you or not.
I haven't payed attention to this myself, as I rarely use halflings. I am curious if the +1 is also absent from throwing attacks? I don't normally cheat, but will gladly console in some +1 throwing knives/darts to compensate this deficiency
If they should get +1 ("even birds would fly away if they saw him stoop" or something), I would have no problem with halflings starting with a masterwork sling, a la Dwarves getting an axe (if they take specialisation in it). Not the best workaround and obviously open to abuse, but for someone wanting their instant +1 sling bonus, an easy way to do it.
I could have sworn that the bonus was added in at the time of the attack. Try opening the "rolls" window and clicking on the attack roll results when the Halfling attacks with the sling (click the Hits or Misses highlighted words). Doing so breaks down the attack roll for you and I could have sworn that one of those rolls was a +1 for Racial bonuses. But it's been about 4 months since I have played a Halfling so I'm no longer positive.
An even better idea, I like it, if it's needed that is. As I said, I don't like to cheat unless cheated. If I was going to that I'd just create a super-party from the start and kill the game in no time (read: no fun) flat. Guess I'll have to look into the neccessity of it.
Hmmm.... while it would be a good start, it would still mean the halfling loses the bonus. In the case of a halfling with a masterwork sling, he/she should get a +2 (+1 from race and +1 from the sling). Thus, with the best slings in the game (+3 magic), the Halfling should have +4 to hit.
But it is a good work-around if the game is robbing halflings of their racial bonus. It's a mwk sling instead of a +1 sling as the bonus is only to the attack roll and not to damage.
i could make special weapons designed for the halfling to be consoled in (there will be cheaters, but it would work for me) consol a masterwork when i get a regular, make one with +1 enchantment and +1 to hit bonus (these do stack i believe) and so on. It would only take me a few minutes if others want it. I am going to do one more real quick check and maybe grab some darts and other assorted thrown objects and see if i might as well make them while i am at it.
IIRC, magic +1 overrides the +1 attack bonus (as it should). I'll try and test this tonight and see what I get.
I just tested this. The Halfling does get a +1 size adjustment AND a +1 racial adjustment for thrown items (like daggers). However, a Halfling only gets the +1 size adjustment for slings. (edit to add snapshots) As you can see, the Halfling is supposed to get the bonus to the sling attack as well, but clearly does not. The posted images are for the Thrown Dagger and Sling attacks. However, I also tested this with throwing a club, javelin, dart, and short spear. ALL of the thrown weapon attacks incorporate the +1 racial bonus properly. However, the sling does not. After checking with the WotC web site and finding that the racial bonus for slings is supposed to apply, my guess is that Troika messed it up - possibly in the temple.dll file. I'm scanning that now to see if I can find anything, but that may take a while.
oh yeah i forgot. +2 to hit bonus and +1 enchantement would work for a +1 sling. i can make those, but they'd have to be consoled. i could make a: Halfling Sling=+1 to hit bonus +1 Halfling Sling=+2 to hit and +1enchantment +2 Halfling Sling=+3 to hit and +2enchantment +3 Halfling Sling=+4 to hit and +3enchantment they would as of now have to be consoled in after crafting the equivelant, but that's all i got for now.
Thats what the man said! But nice testing. Dan, just make a halfling sling (to get at startup) and masterwork halfling sling (to buy) and people can craft the rest if they want.
