After a few years I feel like playing ToEE again. This time I have a few questions before I start again. ***Possible Spoilers**** If I change the level cap to 20 and max HP per level will I have to play the Co8 mod only? I want to kill Iuz this time and last time I played I remember him being pumped up in terms of power over the original version to the point that it is near impossible to kill him before St. Cuthbert Shows up. In the end I want to kill both Iuz, Zuggtmoy and all the Demons in the elemental nodes. Which version will allow me to accomplish this easier?
Welcome back to ToEE! First of all, you don't need to do anything to use the higher level cap. The Co8 mod defaults to a level 20 cap, only set it if you want to cap lower than that. Really, unless you run solo or with a very small (2-3 PC/NPC) party, you won't get near level 20 anyways. Yes, Iuz may be a bit tougher than in vanilla (I think - not too sure) but the higher levels due to extra content from the mod as well as the more powerful equipment more than make up for it. IMO, you have a much better chance of defeating Iuz with the Co8 mod than without it. I absolutely reccommend you play the Co8 mod over the Atari vanilla - the bugfixes alone are fantastic, and the new content takes this game to a new level. Enjoy!
Realy, Iuz is VERY powerfull in the late version of the Co8 mod. With a group of five 16th level paladin, I run for it in the battle, buffered with Bull's Strenght, Enlarge Person, Divine Favor, flanking and even using Smight Evil, I have hitted him just once! He kill two of the Paladins before the arive of St. Kuthbert! A shame... To have any chance to kill Iuz, I hardly recomend the Vanilla (why this name?) ToEE. But I don't bore left Iuz "alive" considering the HUGE befneffits from the Co8 mod.
The best tactic to kill Iuz: have a beefy CG fighter/barbarian equipped with Scather/Fragaratch and buffed with many, many stoneskin spells stand right next to Iuz. Let the Answering Sword's retaliation AoOs do the damage to Iuz, and just have the rest of the party stand clear. Use a cleric to Heal the Scather wielder and a mage to re-stoneskin him every round (a wand of stoneskin is helpful) and Iuz should effectively kill himself trying to take out your tank.
