    Hey guys,

I am pretty new to the game and just D&D in general.
Is there something special about the dagger he holds? I don't see a description.

I also see that he holds some magic potions. What exactly do those do?

    Thank you.

Remember, all merchants (of wathever stuff they sell) can identify items...or use the spell "identify" (pretty obvious uh?;) ). Also if an item has no evident powers (but it's magical) open the radial menĂº of the character who holds it and you can see if it has some power.

And look another threads! There is plenty of tricks, cheats, and help to find for beginners!:)

Be sure to only use "identify" on long-lasting items (weapons, rings, cloaks, wands, etc). Whether you cast it or have a merchant do it for you, it always costs 100 gp to do.

For potions and magic scrolls, you can use "read magic", a 0-level spell that all spellcasters can have, and that doesn't cost money.

Just in case since you're new to D&D, to cast a spell you need to:

    1) "equip" the spell by right-clicking it on your spell list on the left of the screen so it appears on the spell list on the right,
    2) sleep at least 8 hours so you actually have the power cast the spells you have memorized.

You can scribe scrolls of read magic or identify in advance while you are in a safe area such as Hommlet, to use later in the dungeons where you can't craft any such things.

Also, once (and if) you take the "craft wand" feat and know those spells, you can craft wands of anything you know/ can afford, including, of course, identify & read magic.

Of course, you can also just equip items and see if anything has changed in your character sheet - armor class, charisma, saving throws, stealth skills, and who knows what...

    ;)
