Hi all, I have downloaded the said editor and used it to add one feat (dodge) to my characters but in vain. after saving the edited characters and getting back to the game to create my party, I do not see any change. The characters have remained as they were. Am I using the editor the wrong way. I do not understand why it doesn't work...
I did find some old threads here but they didn't explain how to use the editor. Is there any way to add feats to my characters?
The author of that editor has stated in more than a few discussions, (his blog quite a while back) that he has had trouble getting the feats section to work correctly. My personal experience is that this char editor, although nicely done, tends to cause problems with save games when used in conjunction with the TOEE modpak. This is just from my personal experience mind you.
Ok, I have tried everything and it simply doesn't work. I am uploading the 3 characters that need extra feats (to compensate the fact that they aren't human and that I will cap my game to lv10) in case someone might have the kindness to help me modify them. The editor simply will not work. Tordek fighter dwarf - needs dodge Lidda halfling rogue - needs improved initiative and combat expertise Gimble gnome bard - needs dodge and improved initiative Please, can someone help me and fix these characters for me? I have been desperately trying to find a way over the past few days. Thanks in advance. Cheers.
Try TCE. Note that you can't just add feats and skills willy-nilly. If you add feats you shouldn't have or have too many, your game will probably die or you'll run into fatal errors at levelup.
I have already tried the editor and it doesn't work (for me at least). I have also made sure to meet all the requirements to take those feats I need. Is there no way for me to add them somehow? Through hex editing or whatever?
Sorry, I thought was a different one. There is no way that I'm aware of, though I'd imagine a player file could be hex edited, yes. No idea what you'd do to it though. Why don't you just make new characters with the proper feats?
The reason why I am trying to edit these characters is simply to compensate the fact that they are not human. I am a powergamer and usually go with all human parties (even in the IWD games). I got bored of this and wanted to have some variety in my party. To me, the advantages of the other races do not make up for the bonuses Human get. Sure, I could raise INT to compensate for the skill points but I still lose a feat (which is precious when I limit my characters to level 10). Oh well, I guess I will have to live with that... Thanks for trying to help anyway!
Characters aren't limited to level 10 anymore. It also helps to take non-human classes who have bonuses in exactly the right place. For instance, elves automatically have the feats for longswords and longbows regardless of their class -- so if your human would normally want those weapons, an elf would be a good choice there -- that's two feats for free, not counting their other bonuses. An elven fighter almost seems like a waste since they already have longswords and longbows, but a thief might be a good idea, especially considering the dex bonus. A non-human character with a stat of 20 also has something in that, that no human could have at first level. So, if you have a non-human with a stat bonus, it's wise to make sure it's maxed out to take full advantage of the uniqueness of that character's bonus. A half-orc with a mediocre strength is, I think, sort of wasting their bonus potential to hit harder than anyone else.
Ahhh, but humans get an extra feat at character creation. So, a human fighter could actually have "power attack" "cleave" and "weapon focus" at level one, that's a big hand up when you're just starting out.
Yeah, but a half-orc warrior gets +2 to Strength which allows him to wear/carry heavier armour and loot, and a +1 Strength modifier which gives +1 to hit AND damage with ANY melee weapon! I'll take a half-orc warrior over a human warrior any day.
Yeah, but ... uhm, he'll have a low charisma score and and and everyone knows a fighter needs a high charisma ... Darn! OK, you win this round.:twitch: Orcs are all stinky and green and stuff!
