In the list of portraits available, there is one original missing. It is of a white haired elf in leather armour on a blue background, darkly lit. It is currently being used as the Drow Leader in Gnarley Wood. I am curious how to extract this portrait for PC use when generating a character. It is a personal favourite (every elf rogue I made in the past used it) and I would like to use it. Related, why was it removed, if anyone knows.
It was removed because there is no drow pc class for the game. The original is in Toee4.dat. It can be extracted and placed in the portaits folder and added to portaits.mes. I did a solo game one time with him as a fighter/wizard. Worked good. The portaits are in Toee1.dat. All that's needed is the big portrait for a pc.
Okay, but how do you get into TOEE4.dat? Do you need a program or can you use something else. I was assuming that you could get into the file, extract the portrait and copy/move it to the 5.5.0 folders for use.
There's a couple of .dat extractors in the downloads. I like Zanes's 1.0.5 myself. Here's a winrar of the big portrait. Extract, then copy/paste into the portraits folder. Open portraits.mes and fill-in line 1050. {1050} {ELM_1050_b_drow.tga} That should put it the portraits selection in the creation menu.
