I'm putting some thought into a plan for an Evil aligned party once Liv 2.0 is released but it seems that clerics being able to spontaneously heal is pretty much the only thing that makes clerics worthwhile in the game. If I pick an evil cleric who's spontaneous casting gives me Inflict Wounds then I would have to memorise most of his spells as the Cure versions, meaning my cleric couldn't use half the spells and buffs that make them useful. Technically, I can pick a neutrally aligned cleric and a neutral deity (Boccob, Obad-Hai) and get spontaneous healing, but it's a little more difficult to rationalise an almost "good" cleric in an evil party in a role playing sense. Is there any way for an evil cleric to spontaneously cast heals instead of inflicts? At the moment what I've opted for is a Lawful Evil party following their quest to find and destroy Fragarach. I have a Lawful Neutral cleric of Obad-Hai who is going along with this quest as a way to restore some balance by eliminating this powerful tool of good. I also discovered that the elemantal domains available to Obad-Hai clerics provide turn/rebuke powers over elemental creatures. Does this actually work in the game and is it useful? Does it only work against elementals or also creatures such as Salamanders and Galeb-Dur? It appears that by picking domains from two elemental fields (eg: Water and Air) the cleric gains turn or rebuke against all 4 elements.
In a word, no. Evil clerics just can't get the ability to spontaneously cast cure spells. That's why I'll give my evil clerics the Scribe Scroll feat, to make CLW as plentiful as needed while still casting other spells as you like. Evil clerics are totally worth it, imo, since you can just commandeer the undead to act as meat sheilds on your way down. If you are really feeling cheesy, you can give them a reach weapon, and they end up using the spontaneous inflict spells from 10' away. Elemental turning is quite effective, as long as the creature is tagged with the correct elemental subtype. BB
