Buy it now. You can thank me later. Fantastic, old school game made by an indie (mostly just one guy). It has the great spirit of DIY and loving attention to detail that I think would resonate with a lot of you here. Linky
I also recommend this title. I have a couple of gripes that are no doubt the result of it being almost a one man project, like the paucity of different monsters. At level 5, I think I've encounters 5 different opponent types. And the combat, without a party or any kind of Action Point system, is a bit simplistic, dumbed down even from Fallout standards. That said, it has a lot of polish, great interface, dialogue and little details that make a great RPG. It actually reminds me a lot of Prelude to Darkness but with much better graphics. The game is hard too. You really have to pay attention to creating your character if you want to make it. I played 3 hours with my first, thiefish PC before scrapping him and starting over.
I'd say it's deceptively simple. While not brain surgery, I have found my self puzzling through several fights to just barely survive. Positioning, wise use of resources (alchemy, spells, equipment, etc.), and making use of the environment whenever you can make a big difference.
After another many hours playing, I have to upgrade my opinion: this is whole lotta game for $28. It's got charm, it's got style, and hopefully there's going to be more. And not just from Basilisk. Get the direct download. It's fast and it's one install file, ~128MB you can back up to a CD easily.
when I first read the first line in this thread I was like "wtf? is this spam" well it turns out that yeah well maybe, but its the right kind for this forum, we don't need meds or bigger willies here, just more good games :mrhappy:
I agree, it's a lot of fun! I like the ability to roll your character, ahh the memories. I too must upgrade my demo to a full version. Thanks chamr for letting us in on this.
I think I will buy it after I install my new burner in a week or so. Wouldn't want to download the thing and have a system crash before I can burn it to CD.
Well it's official, I'm addicted to Eschalon: Book 1. I think I've played over 10 hours in 2 days. @Sapper_Astro: Instead of burning a cd you can always open a free account at div-share or any other storage site, and just upload it. I've copied it and there certainly isn't any copyright issues with re-installing.
