Greetings all. I'm new here in the forum and have been reading various threads about all the work so many of you have done. Have updated my TOEE with the latest mods and I have to admit - I'm VERY impressed. I'm sure this has been discussed, but I'm curious...just how difficult (or easy) is it to modify clothing colors and appearances. I'm a artist/designer and I'm itching to customize some of what I see in the game. Even if it's something as simple as changing the hue to give a host of new colors, I'm down for it. any thoughts on this?
Its hard for me to explain, I do alot of work in my head as well as in photoshop. clothing which has no addmesh is the easyest to start modding, I personally think the chainmail shirt looks crap and could be better, you'll need to get into the dats so you'll need the extrator, I think you can find it in the downloads forum under modding tools. then you'll need to extract TOEE1.dat and in that folder is all the files (images included) to make new sets of clothes/armour/everything. to make new clothes that does have addmesh, its abit harder because you have to think about file location and you'll need a hex editer to edit the skm's so they look for the files you made.
Speedy reply, I dig it. I'll get on it. I downloaded a hex editor the other day to fix the Good Hope particle trails. I was successful doing that and now I'm all ballsy to try the editor with other items. I'm also pretty dang good with photoshop so we'll see what (if anything) I can come up with. I appreciate the help.
I've posted a run down of all the files involved in making totally new clothing here use your hex editor to open the addmesh skm's to change the name of the file they look for.
Hi all, A quick question. How do I define a path in an skm file. I cracked one open in a hex editor but viewing it in ASCI doesn't show a filename. Thanks, Cuchulainn.
Alright onw more question. I've been looking through some of the clothing and armor skins and am having a lot of dificulty figuring out what parts of the file get wrapped to where. Is it possible that someone has already made up a blank with the areas mapped out? If so any chance they would be kind enough to share? Thanks, Cuchulainn.
I agree the chain looks pretty poor with that red all over it, if someone wanted to come up with an alternate version that'd be good (didn't want to add yet another burden to Cujo's back).
This is my first attempt at skinning, so no promises. But I need something to play around with if I'm gonna figure this stuff out. If I wind up with an acceptable result I'll submit it. Cuchulainn
I personally don't have a problem with the regular chainmail. To me it looks like a suit of chainmail with a red tabbard thrown over the top. What I think looks absolutely hideous is the elven chain. I generally sell it rather than use it just because it's so ugly. Even if someone managed to remove the stupid shoulder pads it would be a great improvement. (And I realize you can just throw a set of robes over it, but sometimes I don't want a character wear robes, and other times it causes problems, like female elves wearing the black or white monk robes.) What could be cool is if we could add some different colored tabbards that would go in the robes slot. I realize there'd have to be a full set of clothing attached because of the way the clothing works in the game, but it'd be great if there was a way to hide ugly armor with some medieval-looking clothing.
Yeah I asked Cujo a while back for surcoats with a similar idea in mind - as you say, it would need a whole redoing of the suit. 'Flagging' it as cheap light fabric is a good idea though.
what you do it guess, thats how you figure out what gets wraped where - or one of my test methods if I didn't get it right first time is to use a rainbow gradient and then test. then you can see what bit of colour goes where and it gives you some idea where every thing is. have a look at the skins for the yakuza tattoos they're probably the most complex I've done so far in relation to figuring out how it gets wraped.
Will some body please change him? Actually I don't mind the Elven chain, and I'm in the 'save Fragarach' group too - its powers, not its appearance. That can be fiddled with
