Hi, I've read on these boards before how ridiculously difficult the Galeb Duhr in the Earth Node are to kill (with DR 15/-). Yet when I got to them they didn't seem to have any DR at all - they just went down like any other monster. What gives? Have they been nerfed in a Co8 patch somewhere? (I'm running 5.0.0). I was quite looking forward to a tough fight! Other question - is there any way to see what your characters' reach is within combat? I've often tried to estimate by eye, took a 5-foot step towards a monster and then found that I'm not within melee range of them - and of course I can't move again that turn. With enemies you can hold down Alt to see their reach so as to avoid provking AoEs - is there any way to see a graphical resprentation for my own characters? Thank you!
I don't know anything about the Galeb Duhrs but I seem to remember that you can see your reach if you press alt on the keyboard and hover the mouse near your enemy.
The galeb duhr have indeed been 'nerfed,' if you consider making them as rules compliant as possible with 3.5 nerfing. Troika's original implementation was way beyond what they should be. Despite their vanilla difficulty, Troika had them at CR 4 originally, even though they're supposed to be CR 9. Now they're CR 6 due to the fact that there were certain abilities Kalshane was unable to give them (which were never there in vanilla either) within the constraints of the ToEE engine. They're much more balanced and rules compliant now, and far less frustrating to deal with.
As for the reach / 5-ft step issue, try this: When you aren't sure if a 5-ft step will reach the opponent, pull up 5-ft step in the radial menu, then put the mouse directly on the opponent you are trying to reach. IIRC, when you can step into attack range, the game will show a green step and you are good to go. If there is no step shown when you are mousing over the opponent, he will be out of reach after the step.
Thanks for the informative replies guys! It does make sense that Galeb Duhrs have been "weakened" to be more in-line with the RAW. I'll try out the tips about showing reach as well. Cheers!
