Ok, if I understand correctly, the amount of portraits which the game can display in the character creation screen is limited (48). You can have more portraits, and the characters will display their portraits properly, you will just be unable to choose the undisplayed portraits for new characters. I was wondering if it is possible to make it display certain portraits based on your selections. IE. if you select a female, only display the female portraits. If it does that, you could have more portraits total (as you could max the various "categories") Then you could also include race there too. Such as orcish and elven. Doing this could be used to add alot of portraits, which could then help jumpstart an expansive portrait project to integrate various other portraits into the game as part of the official co8 patch. If I understand it correctly, it should be possible to determine WHICH 48 portraits are displayed. If this is possible, then we could perhaps do portrait shuffling. That is, install hundreds of portrait, and sort them into "packs" with bat files that will switch between premade mes files to show the correct pack. That way you will have to restart the game to create a new character with the appropriate portait, but its not that big of a deal as it will keep that portrait later on. This would be GREAT if it could be done. I was wondering if any modders can give any input on it. If it can be done, then I'd initiate a portrait project to consolidate the baldurs gate portrait packs for TOEE and the Icewind dale ones and also to ask for any others from other people, and we could finally have co8 patch solve the problem of lack of portraits.
I believe the reason you don't see portraits beyond the current max of 42 is that the selection screen doesn't scroll. The portraits are there, you just can't get to them. So if someone could figure out how to make it scroll . . . Portrait mods seem to interact goofily with other mods though.
well, how about instead of making them scroll, make bat files that change the order in which they are displayed. That is, make interchangeable portrait.mes files where they all have all portraits available in one megapack, but where the first page to display is different. you could switch pages with the bat files, go create a new character, switch again, etc. Even if a portrait is not on the first page, its still there and is used appropriately by characters.
