When I use disable intros, whenever the game starts my monitor makes a horrible squal sound and shows a distorted black and white image for a split second (every time i start it, not just once)... This wasnt too bad until i got to some in game movie sequences. When i got to the temple and it did that for about 10 seconds (i thought it physically broke) i was appaled. Reenabling the intros solved ALL such problems. My question is... what exactly is going on?
Sounds like something screwed with the Bink player. I've used that utility before with no problems, so I don't think there's something wrong with it . btw, all it does is rename the intro movies so they are no longer recognized as Bink (.bik) video files. You could easily do this yourself if you don't want particular movies. Just find the "movies" sub-folder in the data folder, locate the ones called "atari", "troika," "wotc," and rename the extension. Edit: you say your monitor makes the sound . . . how?
my monitor is a CRT, it makes sound from WITHIN it, a bad sound. A horrible screeching sound. No speakers in it to make the sound, its the mechanical parts in it... its obviously getting commands that are outside its safe perimeters and it does not have overflow protection (frankly, almost no hardware does, not cost effective enough to include i guess). This is why there are viruses out there that can physically damage hardware. If all it does is rename the files, then its probably a problem with what the bink player is sending my monitor when it does not find those files... I would think its my monitor dying, but this is to reproduceable, and its been acting FINE once i reenabled the intros. And I don't wanna risk it and see how much more it can take, can't afford a new monitor. EDIT: BTW, it also messes up the gamma for the game!
