Hi, been a while since I posted here, but when I saw the new version of the patch was out, I was inspired to reinstall and play through again. My problem is, when trying to recreate one of my P&P characters (NG Female Cleric of Ehlonna), I couldnt select Ehlonna as a deity. This didnt make much sense to me, 'cause you should be able to select any deity, so long as your alignment is within 1 step, and you're not trying to worship some other races god (No Moradin-worshipping Elves, for example). So basically, I was wondering if this was something you guys could fix, if it's not too big of a hassle.
When you create a new character using the character generator, the BLUE text you can click on for Ehlonna regarding race is Elf, Gnome, Half-Elf, and Halfling. I suggest you make your character a Neutral Good female Half-Elf Cleric of Ehlonna. [EDIT] Half-Elves can look human and not have pointed ears. And, okay, so her mom was an Elf. Big deal. Is there anything wrong with that?
Sometimes the deity choiches do act slightly weirdly. In cases like yours I'm inclined to think it would be morally legitimate using console commands to change deity or aligment after the has started. There's a thread about console caommands (including a list of deities) and at least a couple ones about people asking how to activate the console. I wold post more about, but I'm unsure of the group policy about posting console commands when not specifically requested.
I do not know what, if any, issues would be the result of changing the deity selection after a character has been created. It might even depend on what deity you change a character to have and follow - be rules dependent.
I think the best and safest option would be do create the character as a NN cleric of Elhonna, then change her aligment to NG. There shouldn't be any issue, AFAIK, since the corrispondence between aligment and deity should be checked only at char creation. I changed deity once (my NN fighter could non choose Nerull at character creation), but never for a cleric, so I agree to play it safe.
The only thing wrong is that as a human, I can take MWP: Longbow and Point Blank Shot at 1st level, then Rapid Shot at 3rd. Alignment isnt really that big a deal for me. I mostly picked NG because that's what Ehlonna is. I've tried all alignments within one step of her, and like Krunch said, it's apparently race-dependant. Regardless, I've found a work-around: I just had her start out as a 1st Level Ranger, and then she could take Ehlonna as her deity. I just multiclassed her into Cleric at 2nd Level. It's a little annoying, since her spell progression will be behind a level, and it's not meshing with the P&P character, but I'll prolly survive.
Elves get the longbow and longsword Martial Weapon Proficiencies for free as a racial bonus, leaving you to take point blank shot as your 1st level feat, and rapid shot at third level, the +2 racial bonus to DEX also helps with ranged attacks.
racial dependant deities are a bit silly and in ToEE it goes both ways, I cant remember what the patron god of orcs is called (grumish or some such who is chaotic evil) anyway if you make a halforc paladin (LG) you can still have him as your god just for being the right race.
Agreed; but half-orc paladins are right up there with misunderstood, angst-y Dark Elves; at least in my book. They're not worth oop:oop:
misunderstood half-orc paladin: human female raped by orc, the human female mother survives, human female mother raises child [half-orc], half-orc finds religion to be an good outlet, half-orc becomes a Paladin [but not of grumish]...somewhat understandable and good for role-playing a character in D&D. otherwise, a Half-Orc Paladin who follows the CE Grumish...totally inconceivable and just don't get it
Well, ........DUUUUH! Never said I didn't get it; just that I don't care for it. Try this, Krunch: Prozac. It works wonders.
Funny thought about the Half Orc Pally/Cleric worshiping Grummish Maybe he believes that Grummish isn't really Evil (from an orcish perspective) Or its the Luke Skywalker/Darth Vader thing & the Pally/Cleric believes there really is a Lawful Good God of the Orcs with a tough Chaotic Evil shell as a big front to his personality. After all, Grummish has been seen out on the town with Elhonna, & is really supposed to be a drinking buddy of Corellan's (The real reason he lost his eye was a bar fight that went bad from a crooked pool game with Fraz Urb Luu & Orcus, Corellan actually had Grummish's back) The tabloids just gave mortals the wrong story...
Maybe its just the most worshipped God, like Pelor is for Humans. But yeah, you shouldn't be able to violate your alignment to worship a racial diety, that is silly.
