picture: 3d DAG of underground shaft that leads to toee level 2, level 3, burnt farmhouse. 3d PC model male, with barbarian armor, and some non-mundane bastard sword. XVICIOUS: c/c++ programmer, 2d-3d artist, opengl programmer. I HAVE THE ABILITY CREATE A DAG CLIPP EDITOR TOOL, THAT WOULD EXPORT DAG into OBJ (3d model file wave front) and could then import the edited OBJ back into DAG format. this would allow new clipping shapes for map tiles. poll question's: 1. would this type of tool be useful to modders in world building? 2. if it has a use, what type of CAD or 3d model editor do you usually use? CAD: computer aided drafting free cad programs include: blender, anim8or, sketchup, and many more open source apps. pro versions: maya, bla bla bla money money exetra exetra.
A year ago I would have been elated beyond words to have such a thing available, as I really wanted to have clipping everywhere, but there are so many that already exist and can be hijacked, that I am now content just using existing clipping data for my new maps. After laying out new artwork, I just need to insert a few DAGs to give the map enough of a 3-D illusion - maybe a table, a box, a chair, and some candelabra. They also exist for walls/arches/pillars all over the place. Finding and documenting them all has been a bit of chore, but for me I am happy using the ones that exist. I'm not really sure if any new significant map modding is being done by anyone, except for maybe KOTB expansions that I am not aware of behind the scenes. I wish it was though, I'd love to see new maps and modules more often.
