I've turned the anti aliasing off, decreased all the graphical options to as low as they can go, and turned 3D sound off, but the game is still constantly eating up 95 to 100 % of my processing power causing my laptop to over heat. Is there anything I can do to get the game to not eat up so much processing power so I can play before being able to afford a system cooler?
I have a laptop. The CPU load is usually about 85 % on the first core and 35% on the second core EDIT: Only while I'm running ToEE. XP Pro with SP2 Core duo T7100 @ 1.8 ghz 1 gb ddr2 ram (789 mb effective) 80 gb 7200 rpm sata hd shitty intel graphics media accelerator x3000 (onboard) intel gm965 express chipset, gmch, and ich8m
I'm not the greatest computer expert, but my first thought is you're paying for the onboard graphics. ToEE is definitely graphics-intensive, maybe a dedicated graphics card would reduce the load on your processor to a more managable level. Of course, graphics cards aren't free... :thumbsdow
unfortunately he is on a laptop so that option doesnt work... take a look at the settings of your video... also try to run the program in a lower mode of windows instead of vista.. that could help.. The last thing to do is to look and see what apps are running in your system a lot of times there are apps running that you dont realize are there.
I have a crappy little Celeron laptop which runs ToEE with Photoshop going in the background, never noticed any heating issues even when I left it going for many hours compiling new maps and such. I realise a swanky dual-core will produce vastly more heat than a little Celeron, but I still doubt the problem is ToEE.
Hmm, the first question would be - are you using a Dell laptop? They tend to heat really quickly, as do generally the Intel GM onboard series. However, you shouldn't have much trouble running TOEE on the system, unless you have problems with the cooling device. 85% CPU load for that system on Vista does not sound too bad either. Do try running it in compatibility mode, though. Another question - does this happen to other games?
Well I'm running it with XP Pro so Vista isn't the problem. The only games that cause heating problems are fast moving, graphics intensive games such as FPSers. No other games cause this problem and the only program I have running in the background when I try to play ToEE is Symantic Corporate Antivirus which takes up about 40 megs of RAM and no noticeable processing power. I have the laptop tweaked so that no unnecessary services and programs are running. Installing a video card is not an option because I don't think I have a slot for one plus the laptop would have to be disassembled, which I am not doing. It's not a Dell. It's a Compal FL91. Edit: Is there anything I could change in the cfg file to help with processor load? I don't know much about the cfg file but I looked through it and didn't really see anything that could be helped. I'm running the game in 800x600x16, can the resolution possibly be dropped any lower and would that help?
Get a cooling pad with 3 fans in it. They don't cost much and aren't big or cumbersome. They say it works good. Or, ask Santa for a new laptop. 3fan notebook cooler, $14.99 at tigerdirect.com.
Well I've finally gotten my computer to not crash while playing. Don't really know how I did it but it runs at 70C still. I'm going to invest in one of those laptop coolers when I get the loot. Thanks yall.
