Will this new version have new voices and portraits loaded into it? I was never able to get the Voice and Portrait packs from here to impliment into my current system (lack of computer skills) What are the full contents if you don't mind my asking?
Actually, we do mind. The thing is, what all exactly is going to make it is still unknown. It will have the 4.0.1 patch. It will have Darmagon's New Spells (minus the Flaming Sphere, per Darmagon's request) with Allyx's scrolls for them. It will have the Reattaching Shopkeeper's Inventories (which is really a misnomer). It will have the latest improvements to the Summonable Familiars. It will have some tweaks to existing stuff in 4.0.0. It will have Allyx's Potion Fixes. And the biggie, it will have Kalshane's Proto and Inventory Fixes, with the MOB implementation done by yours truly. It may have the Node Repair Fix. It may have Nerik's Expanded Summoning Spells. It will hopefully have a bunch of new meshes by VirtualSpACEman. It may have some new NPCs. It may have some new voices for currently unvoiced NPCs and some new movies (I am unclear at the moment if we decided to include them in 4.1.0 or in a separate package). What it will definitely not include is the Portrait Packs, for one simple reason. The only thing including them would do is make it so that, instead of unzipping them to your ToEE root directory, the installer would automatically put them there. You would still have to jump through the same hoops you do now to use them. In other words, they would be no easier to use if they were included in 4.1.0. I personally think that, if you use Front End, they are very easy to use. If you don't use Front End, you should. Perhaps in the future some clever programmer type person will make a handy Portrait Pack switcher like the one that is already built into Front End, but since most programmer types already use Front End they probably won't see the need. Until then, you are left with manually renaming file extensions if you don't use Front End.
Thanks I do use Front-End but as I said I was not comfortable messing with any files simply because I didn't want to mess the entire program up. I'm stuck using the Nature Dweller and Charismatic voices (i just don't like the rest.) As for the original ToEE portraits the only one I really like is the female elf in green the rest to me are just average. I liked the NWN portraits far better. Of the portraits that were added through the mod pack I liked the Royo portraits best. Thanks for the information however.
To hell with download size... Is there REALLY a need to make a portrait pack switching program? A simple python script could be written to move around some files, if there is really a need. But as CB said.... there isn't! Will there ever be a time when Co8 demand the usage of a front-end?
I hope so Ugignadl, I hope so. @Dragon_Awakened: If you use Front End, it is very easy to use the Voice & Portrait Packs. Just unzip it to you ToEE root directory (the default location is C:\Program Files\Atari\Temple of Elemental Evil). Once unzipped the Voice Packs are ready to be used when making a new character. For the Portrait Packs, there is a button in Front End labeled "Change a Portrait Pack". All you have to do is click on it and select a portrait pack to make a new character from. You can make characters from different packs by quiting the game and changing the pack in Front End again. Once all your characters are made, just change the pack to Play File, and start your game. There is nothing you can mess up.
Blue I did what you said and when I went to change the portrait packs in front-end it gave me the " there are no new portrait packs to select" message. I'll have one of my more computer literate friends work with me on this. The voice and portrait pack is in my root directory however.
Yes. I did unzip the V&P Pack. I only have time to leave this answer and then I have to disappear again.
Okay. Forgive me if this is redundant. When you unzipped it, did you select "extract files ..." and then selected the ToEE root directory as the location you wanted the files extracted to?
