I just noticed Bassanio (some 5th lvl fighter from ToEE, don't actually remember him) has 'feat code of conduct' in his feats. What the...? Wtf is that?
Strange indeed... That's from paladins, y'now...it's not a feat, but more like a feature from paladins. "not drnking, no evil, no backstabbing..." all that "no fun" stuff. Maybe that's what makes the call for paladins to fall? and speaking of weirdness, look at the will o' wisp feats mg:
The only reference to 'Code of Conduct' I can think of is code of conduct for paladins, clerics, monks and such. Maybe this feat was an early version of the flag which would make a paly fall. But why would Troika assign it to a Fighter in the first place?
Hmm, could be something useful, it certainly doesn't corntrol the paladin falling thing, that is hardcoded according to the certain quests being completed.
Bassanio it's a guy with a mohican (you call it mohawk?) haircut...the guy in the fire temple that watches the chest with the Frostbrand? That code of conduct could be -"an early version of the flag which would make a paly fall" as Mags says -A remain of some sort, or an unfinished feature -In some files, prestige classes are mentioned, and the "knight of the realms" has that feature, same for "samurai master" In any case, it's really interesting...
Hum, it's in the feat list, along with the others... ...which makes me wonder wtf it's the associates and defensive roll feats?
Defensive Roll is an awesome high-level Rogue feat, IIRC. In NWN (please don't hold it against me that I'm using that as a reference for DnD) the feat will allow you to potentially dodge a killing blow. I think someone (Hazelnut or Spellslinger maybe) mentioned working on this feat, but was unable to make it work.
You're right, Erkper, defensive roll let's make a roll if a blow would drop you below your HP killing you. I don't remember clearly, but i think if you succed you'll be safe, but at 0 hp, stabilized but concious (to drink a potion, for example) Well, something like, that, i've readed so many books, that some abilities are the same for prestige classes, and i confuse them. I recall a prestige class, that have the same ability, something like "shadow adept" or the like, when you use that ability and have succes, the character instead of dying, explodes in a blast of shadow shards, and go to a ethereal safe place without dying, and rest there t'ill it get to 0 hp and stabilizes, at that point returns to reality. Really cool. I've surprised my players many times with that. :evil_laug Also, i think that associates it's from paladins too, about "no associating with evil" and all that. In any case, those aren't feats, just features...i suppose that they worked as "flags" for the pally falling.
I do remember seeing the defensive roll feat somewhere and as this is the only RPG I've played for the last few years, it probably is in the game. I'm pretty sure it was mentioned as above as it helped you when struck with a killing blow.
Unless something's been changed, a lot of the Will o' wisp feats are there to try and emulate their powers that don't exist in the game. When I did my huge monster re-vamp for Co8 5.0 I had to use feats for a lot of monsters to try to kludge in some semblance of their by-the-book abilities that were never actually coded into the game. No idea where Bassinio got "Code of Conduct" from, though. That's not something I did.
Just to give you fair warning, Kalshane - kotB is based on Co8 4 and predates your revision, so try not to freak out too badly. I made many efforts to ensure the rules compliance of various creatures, but I don't doubt many little things slipped through.
Ah, i see...for example, the woodland stride makes sense in a creature made of energy... Very clever And thre's also lots of strange things, for example, the orcs prisoners have "improved bull rush" on their feats list...
