I'm still fooling around with my Co8 intro credit movie idea, and I'm wondering who in the Co8 community would qualify for the roll of honor. I've done a little research snooping around the site and have come up with the following list of "persons of interest." My criteria so far have been administrators and modders with significant contributions/numbers of posts. Seems like usually admins are modders too. Admins / modders: zhuge, Exitium, Nomad_Wanderer, Chris Woods, Agetian, Dhoom, Vaevictus666, Joviex, Phalzyr, moebius2778, Morpheus. I ruled out Mynex and Kobayashi from the admin list since they have very few posts and haven't been around since forever. Other modders: sir_toejam, Shin, RufusAtticus, Dulcaoin, Livonya, Allyx, rex_blade, Ausir, Firestrand, JHunz, spOOL. I included spOOL despite his low post count (8), since he cracked the in-game PC count. If anybody cares to validate/invalidate anyone on this list, please do. Likewise, if I've left anyone out, please let me know. p/s - I haven't deliberately overlooked those with higher post counts that don't neccesarily mod (Lord Plothos, Kalshane, Lord_Graywolfe), just figured this was sort of a modding thing only.
I really appreciate the credit for the work I've done for Co8. I'll try to keep it up with the modding and the tools. - Agetian
Little spelling error: It's "Vaevictis666", not "Vaevictus666". You might also add Aginor37 (did some work on shop inventories way back), Huntsman (helped with the 3.x.x mod pack), Mr. Underhill (devhelper co-author), Shiftijim (additional items), Toshi (katana mod) and Zane (toeeextract - need I say more?) in the helpers/modders section. There are also a lot of other people who have helped with their suggestions and bug reports (I'm thinking of folks like bryce777 over at the Atari boards, etc.). Many thanks to each and every one of them!
You deserve credit yourself... ...for being "the guy" behind "the guys" Gaear; you've done a lot to help this thing grow. So has Allyx, as modder/tester. As for those you'd like to mention (but have not been a driving force or major contributor) just add 'em at the end in their own little blurb or something.
Okay, I'm going to run with this then, come what may. I've still got some concerns - (Morpheus in particular, please see end of post). You're not getting out of it that easy, d. Thanks, this is exactly what I'm looking for. All the above members noted. Spelling errors noted. Q: I notice Shiftijim's not in the members list. Was he ever a member? This leads me to my next point: My inclination is to limit the list to existing Co8 members, unless anyone has strong objections. I'm not trying to poo-poo anyone, but the list has to be finite, and this is a Co8 endeavor, after all. I see bryce is a member, but he has 0 posts. I agree he and others have been a help though. I'm open to debate here. Thanks for the kind words guys, but I definitely fall under the void category. If we spend time crediting people like me, then it will turn into an academy awards-type fiasco where "we'd also like to thank dulcaoin's great-aunt from suburban Pawtucket, as well as Lord_Spike's trusty beagle Snot." A few additional points / questions / concerns: (opinions welcome) 1. Morpheus, I suppose we'll need to decide on any practical limitations to the size of the mod pack. (Assuming you'd want to put this in. btw, I'm designing it with that in mind - right up front it says something about mod pack 4.0.0). A movie (even Bink) of any length will add MB exponentially. I recall Firestand posting something a while back regarding broadband and file size . . . 2. Any suggestions as to the order of the creds? Alphabetical, etc.? Right now I'm doing it by number of posts, so zhuge and Livonya are right up front. Not too inappropriate, imo, given their contributions. Please make suggestions. 3. As of right now I'm just throwing everyone who makes the list in together, as opposed to separating them out as modders, admins, janitors, et al. This will help alleviate impressions of pretensions, hopefully. Again, I'm open on this. 4. This thing could actually look really cool, if done right. FYI, I'm going for a rather reserved but inspirational theme, using existing ToEE images. Let the action and excitement come from playing the modded game! 5. Is there a Circle of Eight logo anywhere to be found? I know the front end of this site is down . . . 6. Regarding music: the piece I have in mind is, um, not exactly from the ToEE DATs, shall we say. It's much better, imo. I always rather disliked ToEE's "Roman ambient techno" themes. This raises certain questions, however. Morph, if you'd care to discuss this further, maybe you could pm me. That's it for now. Thanks again for your interest & feedback. Gaear
Alright, I've found Shiftyjim (with a y), but oddly he's not listed in the members list. Also, what about Goongyae? He was involved in the additional items effort as well, by the look of things. Also also, I'm beginning to reconsider on the non-modder thing. A guy like Kalshane deserves credit: he's gone a long way toward making Livonya better. Maybe you all could post non-modders here who've made significant consulting contributions. Leading non-modder posters are, by my check: Lord Plothos, lord_graywolfe, Kalshane, wizgeorge, taltamir, Zebedee, blackfly, Kespoosh, Rook Hudson, Lord_Spike . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . yes or no? - g
No beagles... ...just a 16 year-old cat. She's been ill-tempered since the day I got her, and it's only gotten worse. There are those who believe she is possessed, but I think she's just mean. And her name isn't snot. But as for you, I still think your name ought to be in it somewhere... Hell, if it weren't for you, I doubt most folks that have come here from the Atari boards would have even bothered. A LOT of people are here viewing, posting, helping out with their $.02... I for one would have been wondering just WTF happened to everyone there if it wasn't for you, soo...you owe it to yourself to find a way (a modest one, perhaps) to include yourself.
Thanks for mentioning me, but I deserve no credit whatsoever for just playing the game and reporting back on bugs... Save the credit for those of you who have kept the game alive for so long and have positively enhanced the experience for people like me And Gaear - have a look at your posting record and what you have posted both here and over at Atari, and stop being so darned self-effacing hehe
well Gaear im honored but im only just starting to really do anything to help and if you want to put me on there then you most defintly have to be there ahead of me. as to the rest the ones on there i know i agree with cause of all the time they have spent on this board helping the modders iron things out.
I think that the order should be alphabetical. Everyone in your list did something important for the community, something that in the end helped everyone here reach the common goal (make the game modification possible). So, the number of posts doesn't count here I think - a person may have very few posts (even 10-15!) but if he had done something extremely important and crucial for game modding, his contribution shouldn't be underestimated. On the other hand, a person might have a huge number of posts (100? 200? 300?) but it might have been just general babbling most of the time (BUT, we are not talking about such people here, right? So, I guess alphabetical order works anyway, since it kind of sets us all at the same "level of glory" (which is, IMO, more just due to the fact that our work here at Co8 is definitely a team work, not a work on your own). That's, by the way, why dividing into moderators/registered users/etc. etc. may not work either (since "modding" is for "modification", not for "moderating" )) I guess the fact that, for example, I am a moderator doesn't make my contribution any bigger than if I were a registered user. I would have still done the same things (minus sticky threads and minus deleted spam, which doesn't count if we talk about modding )) OK, I was just explaining my point of view, it's also debatable. I'd love to see that, too! However, I don't have it, so if someone out there does, please tell us - Agetian
I may be mistaken, but last time I checked Rook Hudson doesn't even have the co8 patch installed, he keeps complaining about things that the co8 patch has already fixed, and saying that he's "not interested in installing beta versions as they may contain bugs" as if the official patches are perfect... WTF? Just my opinion.
Yeah, the above quote is just a listing of members who lead in numbers of posts. Why don't we make this a bit more simple: Co8 members, post your nominees for non-modders (consultants?) that you feel have contributed significantly here. I'll start off with Kalshane.
