Created a new cleric character- Human str 17...took Pwr attck feat to start...and Pwr Attck does not show up on the radial menu option. Intend to make a Cleric/Ftr and am perplexed that I can take PwrAtck as a feat but can't use it. Have tried with different wpns...martial wpn feat + pwr attck, and still does not show on the radial menu. Is this a bug? A rules thing or am I missing the obvious? Thanks. Really enjoying the CO8 mod!
If it's a lvl 1 cleric, that's why you can't use power attack: clerics at lvl one have +0 attack bonus, and you need 1 at least to rest from it to add to damage. So, without having a positive BA bonus, you can't use the feat...still. I had a cleric from Kord, and use it without problems, with the frostbrand and bull's strength, you won't need a fighter level
It's odd that you can take Power Attack at all with a 0 BAB. Most similar feats aren't selectable until you can use them (i.e. improved TWF is not available until you get a second attack at -5 BAB.)
The Prereqs on Power Attack are simply 13 Strength. Plus, a human character, could concievably take Power Attack at 1st level even if he can't use it and then take Cleave as his bonus feat, which he could use.
You use Power Attack by adjusting the slider as you seem to have surmized. As you move the slider across (it grows by one every time your BAB goes up) you get a -1 to your attack, and a +1 to damage caused (+2 if using a two handed weapon.)
you trade in x attack bonus for +x damage (x is the n° you take on the slider) This x damage get's doubled with true 2-h weapons, and *1.5 with single-handed weapons used with 2h (like the bastard sword). I'm not very sure, but I also think it get's augmented while criticly hitting tonce you have set the power attack, the character will use it until the end of the round, so AoO will also make use of the powerattack. Obviously, powerattack is good against low-ac creatures, but not that good against highly armoured or dex'ed creatures.
