Hi, I was wondering if spell penetration or any of the meta magic feats are worth taking for a cleric . Any suggestions would be appreciated . Thanks
IMO, Spell Penetration is useful to take when the character can't fight well with weapons. So, it would depend on your cleric's strength. I personally don't like meta-magic feats except for Sorcerors and Bards. Having to apply the feat during the night before - that kind of planning - is too tricky for me. Crafting is great. Scribe Scrolls!! I'm not a big Wand fan because they get pricey. However, for Negative energy clerics, Craft Wands and Spell Focus (Necromancy) are great.
Spell Penetration and Greater Spell Penetration are definites for any effective spell caster. These feats give you a decent chance and affecting monsters with Spell Resistance. As for the other metamagic feats, I honestly do not use them, preferring to have a wider array of spells at higher levels than losing those slots to differently empowered spells. Again, it's a manner of your own play style for your spell casters. Anyone out there, I thought I remembered seeing past threads commenting on how some (all??) of the meta magic feats do not work or aren't applied properly. This info may come in handy for some of the newer players or those not familiar with the meta magic feats. Comments, suggestions??
Surely. Improved Counterspell (not metamagic, but I consider it in the realm) is very strong with a cleric, because they usually have access to the correct school of magic with their malleable lists. Empower or maximize could work if you are flamestrike happy, or you use a lot of holy words/alignment spells. Otherwise, Extend spell is always a winner, with buff heavy characters. Some of the nastier buffs like Righteous might have very short durations. EMIRKOL THE CHAOTIC - From what I remember, the meta magic feats mostly work. I haven't seen discussions about them lately.
