That doesn't sound right ... the signpost script only gives you one when you click on the 'collect retirement notice' dialogue.

Is there a better thread for me to post this question on?

"Still getting crashes on initializing screen

am using windows 7 on a screen with 1366 x786 resolution.

What compatibility mode should I use for

the gog. download of toe install?
    The co8 modpack install?
    The co8 front end?

What resolution should I set in the co8 front end?"

    Cheers

    Tom

Did you follow the clean install recommendations and then the installation instructions exactly as written?

If so, and if the issues still persist, have you tried disabling/enabling movies? (Whichever it isn't, set it to.)

What resolution are you trying to run it with?

My experience has been that if you try to exceed the number of rows, it crashes.

Any listed resolution that your monitor also supports. 1366 x 786 is (I think) a one-off resolution that's not listed as extra-vanilla supported anywhere that I'm aware of. This doesn't mean it can't work, but it's probably less likely. I'd try a more common one, like 1280x960.

To see what resolutions your monitor supports, right click on your desktop, click properties, click the settings tab, and shift the slider left and right to see what is listed. Make note of them, and pick one that's also listed in TFE-X.

^ The above is assuming that Windows 7 still does this the same way as Windows XP did, which is not at all a safe bet, since the imperative with Windows 7 (and especially 8) was apparently to change everything, starting with the basics, so that no one would know how to do anything anymore.

Right click, choose screen resolution and your current resolution will be shown with a drop down window to change it. Win7 that is.

You can loot the thief if you're quick and manage to click on his corpse before it falls to the ground, but yes, an easy way to do it via the dialog would be most welcome!

Not sure about the new talking zombies in the moat house.
"Brains brains" I loved but" Hey wait for me" and "Watch out Dad" cause me to suspend disbelief.

Suspension of disbelief is actually a good thing. ;) But I'm sure they're not meant to say that.

Suspension of disbelief? That means you're holding off on not believing? Heh heh

I thought is was hilarious when they started saying that. :)

That's actually quite accurate, in all seriousness. The term refers to the condition in a work of fiction where the reader/player/consumer loses the innate condition of not believing what's going on, e.g. they are 'immersed' or what have you. People often mistakenly think it's an act of volition, but in the context above it is something the writer et al does or causes in the reader. So we could say that Hugh was happily immersed in ToEE, believing himself to be beneath the Moathouse Ruins, when suddenly, a odd line from a zombie rattled him out of this state of immersion and he remembered he was playing a game. :)
