When Burne tried to copy the icestorm scroll, it failed. I tried again and it said 'invalid action'. I had him use the scroll and it ran for 2 seconds and kind of fizzled. I had the party wizard scribe another scroll, but it still doesn't work. He just went to level9 and i took cone of cold and teleport for level5 spells. He copied stoneskin okay, which is level 4 like icestorm. I don't understand why he failed to copy icestorm. I'm ready for the firetemple and icestorm sure is handy. Any ideas.
You can only try to learn a spell from a scroll once per level, if the wizard fails, they have to try again after another level up.
Invalid action. Burne just went to level 9 and I still get invalid action. I've never seen this before. When I bring Burne in the game and set him up with his spells, magic missile, identify, knock, read magic, invisibility, etc. I always copy icestorm and stoneskin for his level 4 spells and it has always worked before. There is no reason for spellcraft to fail. Why just icestorm?
You can only attempt to read a scroll once per day. You need to leave the map, rest for a day, and then try again. - Livonya PS: This happened to me once, and I believe this is what I did to fix it.
A simple solution. When you get a scroll, save game. Learn scroll. If it fails, reload. If it succeeds, save and go ahead with next scroll. If no more scrolls, save and go on adventuring. May sound dumb, but saves you the trouble of having a scroll lost. It is a kind of "innocent cheating".
I think the rule is that you have to add a point to spellcraft before you can try to learn a spell again. If you fail, he has to not only level up but put a point in spellcraft when he does so, otherwise it'll still be invalid.
Invalid action. Burne just went to level 10 and still no icestorm, no way, no how. Not a big deal, but i've never seen this before. I know there are bugs and I guess this is one of them. His spellcraft score is 17, his highest score. This doesn't compute.
You raised his Spellcraft when he leveled up, right? I've never run into a character just not being able to learn a spell.
Hmmm... Actually, I think the problem may be that the scroll is holding the flag, and not the NPC. So I think basically what is happening is once you fail with the scroll there is no way to learn from that same scroll again. I would suggest getting a new scroll with the same spell and trying that one. Of course you probably have no way to get a new scroll... in that case you would need to open up the console and deleate the scroll you have and then create a new scroll in your inventory. You can find out how to do that in some of the posts from a few months ago... I believe there is a large one about the console somewhere... - Livonya
Icerstorm. I have no idea why a wizard with spellcraft of 17 can't copy this scroll. I had the party wizard scribe a scroll, Burne picks it up, it's in the inventory,in a different slot than the original, and still, Invalid action! I've tried in Hommlet, and the safehouse in Nulb. So, no icestorm for Burne, no way, no how. I tried when he leveled up at 9th and 10th level. No go. Also, why is it the scrolls, potions and other things the npc's take into the dungeon with them, disappear when they leave, if not used. Also, did you notice Burne has no boots on. A rich, powerful wizard and he has no boots. What a shame. Also, why can't Druids turn undead? Fireball works good but turning would be cheaper and easier.
Wizgeorge - NPCs are not leaving potions and wands and stuff in the dungeon. They are selling them to the stores. NPCs will sell anything in their inventory, so if you give them something that you don't want them to sell then you have to take it out of their inventory before you visit a store. Also, it isn't that Burne can't use a scroll of icestorm, the problem is the first time you tried you failed. And now that scroll is flagged as tried. You have to get a new scroll to try again. Druids are not Clerics. They can't turn undead and they also can't cast fireball... - Livonya
Just to point out, I have been able to copy a single scroll after failing once and then succeeding on a subsequent try, although it's never worked if trying immediately after the initial failure.
Gaear - Interesting... Wizgeorge - Try this. Try learning a different scroll... some other spell that you don't know. And then go back to the Ice Storm scroll and try again.... perhaps that will reset the flag. I know this exact thing happend to me once. But I somehow managed to get it to work later, I just don't know what I did to fix the situation. - Livonya
Burne. I did that. The party wizard scribed stoneskin(a level 4 spell), and it worked fine. Burne has a spellcraft score of 17 and this should not be a problem. It never has been before. I have 2 other wizards,(female half-elf of course), so it's not a big problem. He still has Cone of Cold and Teleport so we're cool.
The game only seems to remember the last scroll you tried to copy but failed, try copying another scoll (reload if you succeed), when you fail save and then try icestorm.
