In ToEE, a Greatsword proficient non-warrior is still considered non-proficient when using a Bastard Sword two handed. My understanding of the Bastard sword in 3.5e is that anyone proficient with Greatswords can use a bastard sword 2 handed with no penalty. So, here's my question.....is the inability of greatsword proficient non-warriors to use bastard swords without proficiency penalties intended behavior? (In other words, is my understanding incorrect?) If this is not intended behavior, is it possible to fix this within the limitations of the engine?
Actually, no. To use a bastard sword two-handed without penalty in 3.5e, a character must have Martial Weapon Proficiency (All) or Martial Weapon Proficiency (Bastard Sword). To use it one-handed, a character must have one of the previous as well was Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Bastard Sword).
