Sorry..I posted this in the TOE forum. But it looks like this one is where the more current discussions are. Should the Balor's magic resistance protect it against Ghoul's Touch? I find that I am able to routinely use that spell to defeat it. (It inevitably fails its MR/Saving Through and then a fighter uses coup de gras.) Ghoul's Touch seems disproportionately powerful in this game, relative to its level. Is that a glitch in the game?
Lot's of spells feel overwhelmingly strong at specific cases. Personally I never used 'Ghoul's Touch' but I will give it a try.
It's not Magic Resistance that is protecting the Balor, the spell Ghoul's Touch only affects Humanoids, whereas the Balor is a Planar Outsider of the Demon subtype. You should be getting a float line when you cast the spell on it that tells you why it doesn't work... "Target Immune: not a Humanoid" or something along those lines. https://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/ghoulTouch.htm
Oh there are plenty of bugs left, unfortunately for hard coded bugs without the source code we either have to make do or rewrite the engine (Temple+). This however shouldn't be a hard coded issue, but a scripting issue with the spell in question.
I did fix the hardcoded bug where it didn't even do a saving throw... that's the worst part IMO, since Balor/Zuggy etc should have decent fort saves.
