OK, there's a problem here. The Balor is undefeatable through everything I try. I have a 14 barb, 14 fighter, 14 rogue, 13 bard, 13 druid, 12 cleric and 11 fighter. All have +3 armor (mostly elven but a couple mithril shirts) all with shields from +5 to +7, all with cloaks of resistance +4, all with rings of protection +4, all with amulets of natural armor +4, all with belts of giant strength +6, and all with +3 masterwork weapons. All this PLUS my bard playing inspire courage through the ENTIRE battle and still NO ONE makes a successful save against the fear from the Balor. wtf is going on? Is there some magical button I press somewhere that instantly kills him or do I just have a horrible party?

cold and holy weapons help, also a bit of cannon fodder is good - I've used charmed ettins and owlbears before, I also keep alot of my party away from him in the first few rounds to be out of range of the fear spell, my fighter usually gets haste and spell resistance cast on him which normally works as well.

I can't make holy weapons, I'm out of experience to make cold weapons, my "cannon fodder" refuse to attack at all, it doesn't matter how far away I keep my party, I tried the bow strategy with them so far back he was in a different screen and they STILL got fear (not to mention they can't hit a damn thing despite +3 ranged weapons and +3 projectiles fired from them), and I have no haste or spell resistence spells.

Desperate times, desperate measures, console commands. Who knows the command to spawn a recruitable Spugnoir? (He's been killed, he'll need to be recreated or something, I know this can be done but it's probably going to suck to do.)

I found a thread elsewhere but the strategies that I have the party to try with don't work. It's as simple as that. The "keep a distance" one doesn't work at all, they still catch fear even though they don't even see the balor (the sprite doesn't show in view, just the flames on him). The "use your bows" thing would work if I could hit something, the best try was 30 +3 bolts hit for a grand total of 5 damage from Iolo's Joy +3. As I already explained I don't have alot of the bulk up spells most parties do because I don't keep alot of Wizards or Sorcerers on file, I prefer Druids and Bards. I'm too high level to get XP from fight anymore (occasionally I get maybe 50 for a massive battle) so my only remaining option is to ressurect a fallen NPC, level them up as a Wizard or Sorcerer and hope THAT works.

EDIT: And what good is my cleric?

Well, give it a read & see what you get. Your archers need dexterity to hit something even with all that stuff. I had a halfling rogue/ranger with all the bow feats & super weapons & dexterity of 25. Hasted, he killed the Balor almost single handed. Not saying that to brag, but to say this: archery can't be an after-thought if you want to use it successfully. With a party like you've got, listen to Kalshane's advice. It should work.

Side note...shouldn't this thread be somewhere besides here...?

I had this same problem, I had an uber party and coudln't even hit the guy. So in the end what I did was I had my mage and Darley load up on magic missile. And then I used Maudin Soul Hammer (Spelling error here probably) on my dwarf Barbarian who was Lvl Fighter/9 Barbarian. I put one guy forward and then when the fight began the Balor feared and debuffed my party and then summoned a second Balor on my mages. I proceeded to cast Ostulike (spelling?) Resilent Sphere on my first guy and then the original Balor does nothing except futilely hitting the guy with the sphere protecting him. I use everyone else on my party to kill the summoned balor, I do this by buffing my Dwarf with everything and letting him go nuts. Afterward I magic missile the original Balor, loading and saving every time so that I beat his spell resistance 4/5 every time. This gets him down to about injured, or badly injured. Afterwards I barbarian rage and just go in swinging away. Loading and saving as I am successful. Eventually after about a hour or so I took him down.

You need about +22 to hit him on a less then average occasion. I suspect to him consistently you would need a +25 or more.

Damn, what is with the new generation? There is a really, really easy way to kill the Balor. It's not cheating, but it mayaswell be. Friggin' people making uber parties AND THEN whinging about not being able to kill something!

    Hint: Beat the other nodes.

If you keep the whole party at a distance, he casts fear on the party. If you keep most of the party at a distance, but move one or two characters close to him, he casts the fear on the close characters, leaving the rest of the party unaffected.

What have I been telling you about Scorched Earth and Evil parties? ;)

Btw, I'm moving this thread to the ToEE forum if I can.

Ugignadl, I've already killed EVERYTHING in the temple, completed every quest, and done every item enchantment I can. Not to mention going on town killing sprees for a coupld extra XP. None of it worked. And your "easy way" sucks, I tried it ages ago, the summoned monsters' spells and specialties were more of an encumbrance than help, they were worse than worthless.

And Blue, scorched earth is the only way to play, stop knocking it. :-D

The Balor is dead, the game is beaten and I have this to say. The Final Boss was infinitely easier than the Balor and I fought the HARD version of her. This needs to be changed, minions should never be able to top their master.
