    Hey people,

I have toee(unpatched version...assume I can only play with this version) and have searched around on this topic but havent found too much.

So when I kill Balor, I pick up and ID the gem he gave me and when i reach the underground place where the temple outpost is(where you have all those bandits) the game crashes.

I have also charmed an Elfretti althougth i dont think this is the problem and removed a ring of minor resistance from Otis to my Druid player bt aan i dont think that it.

I am also using holy water and those which have dropped I have picked up again.

I have a feeling i need to get the Orb/Skull thing and insert all the other three gems I have and then get the fire gem.

    Can anyone confrim this?

    A few other questions.

Balor has a strength of 24(from searching the forums) so if i get my rougue to do 12 cripling strikes..his strength should be 0 right?
Assuming that each crippling strike removes 2 from strength permenantly.

I also successfully cast feeblemind on Balor:evil_laug but dont know how that will help me.

Plus i read Lareth will be lurking around somewhere if you choose not to kill him but when I entered the temple..he said this route will lead to certain death and dissapeared...so do i get to see him again?

    Thanks alot

Tragic - are you playing with the Co8 patches? I'm probably being dim but I read your post as meaning you are playing the game unpatched.

Could you confirm your patch order - as various bugs and things have been patched and replicating any problems you may be having is nigh impossible if you are using a version of the game which is different.

Blue's done a fantastic job on trying to document the Co8 patches. The release notes for the latest version of Co8 is the best you're going to get for documenting which Co8 patch fixed which bug. The Atari patches (well, 2 does - not sure about 1) has a readme with some fixes noted down in it (which may or may not be comprehensive).

There are so many bugs in the game that something apparantly unrelated could actually fix the problem you have been having (obviously not in the same save game though heh). So not sure what to suggest - you can't really expect us to hunt a bug in vanilla which may or may not be present in the latest version of Co8 and may or may not be related to your system (as so many bugs are). ;) Balor is a buggy encounter and always has been - this could just be yet another manifestation which may or may not still be present for some people with even the latest Co8 patches.

A search over at the Atari forums may or may not be revealing (I can't access it through this firewall so you'll have to do the legwork) as the bug may be one which other people encountered playing vanilla 2 years or so ago.

No idea on crippling strike as I've never tried it with the Balor. :)

Dont worry youve been very helpful.

I understand it may be tough to weed every single bug.

I actually killed Balor and teleported away from the scene without picking up the gem.
But at least I kiiled the demon!!

I didnt use orb of death(hehehe) so I feel very smug.

Seriously no one has tried to use crippling strike on Balor?

Its such a relief seeing ability loss come up 3-4 times and his damage reduced.
Casting invisability sphere next to him causes him to miss...alot :evil_laug

Balor seems resistant to sonic/lightning and of course fire.

Got my rogue to do 20 damage and kill the bugger!!!

Feeblemind causes Int to go down to 1 which I assume makes him cast less spells.:evil_laug

Next step is to get the gem/clear out fire node and get burne to join...only to get him to scribe a fireball scroll and kill the demoness.
