I know this is a long shot, but I need to know if anyone works there. Immigration has a hold on my FAFSA application for financial aid for college. Without this, I can not pay for school. I have been in college for 7 years and this has never happened, so I need to know why. Furthermore, there is no one to contact about this matter. I have called 20 agencies, FAFSA, my school, and no one can help me. Just looking for someone who can put me in contact with the people I need to talk to. Thanks
When all else fails, call your senator. They can get in touch with anyone. Especially during an election year. edit: I'm serious about this, btw.
So, you mean you're a citizen of another country but we tax payers are paying for your college? I didn't know we did that. And there I went and paid for my wife and son to go to college by working extra hours and cutting back on extras. Man, I sure missed the boat.
I am a citizen of Sweden but have paid all of my taxes to the USA thank you As a permanent resident alien (green card holder) we are basically citizens in every way except that I can not vote. I also cannot join the Peace Corp or a couple other government related groups that accept only US citizens, and I am forbidden from a lot of scholarships. Trust me, I am no slacker taking your tax money. I have been here 25 years and always pay my taxes. Also, I know I am not illegal because they just let me back in the country after visiting Montreal!
I apologize if I came across in an accusing manner Ranth. I didn't doubt your legality, was just shocked when I realized I could have found an easier way to fund my wife and son's educations.
I'm just wondering why, if they let you get out, would you come back?! Canada has better beer and health care and trees and everything!
Just how many of youse guys are there? Are we talking the whole eastern seaboard? Instead of New Hampshire, should it be New Sweden?
American Universities offer lots of scholarships to the best and brightest of other countries. I guess it's a good way of improving the gene pool.
Hampshire is in a foreign country, too. So the name wouldn't need to be changed. Remember, most of the country is immigramt families. In fact, only about 50 to 60 thousand years ago, all of our ancestors lived in Africa. If you don't like all the foreigners, go back to your home country(ies).
While I don't care either way about foreigners or domestics, I believe this statement is a very fascist thing to say, but yet so popular. I was just giving Ranth a hard time. Nothing else.
We do that here, too. Foreigners pay huge amounts to get an education of a quality they couldn't get at home, and that keeps the price of education for the locals at a a couple thousands per year (which can be deferred). Great system - everyone wins.
Do you think there's a chance for a 41 year old foreign exchange student to go down under and study biology and forestry and wildlife so I could get a TV show that put me in direct contact with all of the world's most dangerous animals? 20 foot alligators and 2 pound spiders and poisonous snakes and sharks and stingrays?
You weren't even giving him a hard time. You weren't really saying anything out of line. That was just ME giving YOU a hard time. Fotreigners are just Americans with accents. Some immigrants don't speak English, but their children will. As an example: Mexico sent troops to fight in WWII. But FAR more Mexican nationals fought in the U.S. Army. And no, they did not get citizenship for that. The most highly decorated American unit in U.S. history was the 442nd Regimental Combat Team "Go for Broke", a Nisei unit. The Nisei were children of Japanese immigrants, many of whom spent the war in concentration camps.
