So, I got this huge email today because apparently there's a class action lawsuit underway against www.classmates.com. I don't understand all the legalese and other crap about it all but can someone correct me if I 'm wrong, that this lawsuit is seeking 2 !@#$%^& dollars for each defendant? This is the link for the lawsuit legal stuff... http://www.cmemailsettlement.com/index.php If I don't stand to receive hundreds of thousands of dollars or more, I couldn't really care any less and consider this to be a nuisance lawsuit.
Beware of phishing scams that come across like ligit law suits. I would look to see how they got your email address. Was it from you, or was it random?
This is legitimate. I am a registered user of classmates.com and it was just my address on the email, along with the address of the court and the law practitioners involved. This isn't a scam because they aren't asking anything from me, just notifying me that if I want to be a part of this class action action lawsuit, I stand to receive a $2.00 credit towards the website's registration fees, lol. I just find it hard to believe that this is a lawsuit, suing over 2 !@#$%^& dollars.
No, Necro. The $2.00 is just your share of the overall settlement. This is the divided amount after attorney fees, court costs. etc are deducted. The rest is split between all parties of the "class action" suit. The "class action" status is granted when enough plaintiffs are or have filed against a specific defendant(s). It allows an easier handling of the suit trial process as the courts (usually federal) just have to deal with one large case as opposed to multiple, multi-state lawsuits. You might as well go for it, it's a free $2.00 for you. If your worried about the legitimacy of the suit, locate the court/cause case# and where it's being handled an look it up online. There are a lot of court dockets/info available to the general public.
OK, I've read why they're suing the site. Apparently it's because it upgraded your account and charged you money without any warning and your consent (just by clickin a link, etc.). Now, this is scamming. They were decent enough to charge you only 2$ for it but some sites do it for thousands of dollars.
Ok, that really pisses me off. They stole from me. I don't care how much it was. I have hard times just like everyone else but I don't perpetrate criminal acts to try to solve problems. However, there's an exception to this rule. I would do a "criminal act" by dragging them out of their office by their short hairs and drag them down the freeway behind the truck until there's only a little piece of skin left dangling and a really long flesh, blood and bone skid mark trailing back to the beginning. I wonder what other criminal acts they're involved in. Grrrrr. Makes me want to bring them out into the deep woods, sit them down on a tree stump in the dead of winter, nail their legs to the stump and let the cold and wolves have them. And then they would wonder if the $2 was worth it while they were begging for their mommy.
