Another Greyhawk discussion? GNOLLS/GHOULS Hey - speaking of hungry ghouls - i was speaking to one ABOUT hungry ghouls pouncing on people - from hiding - much like cats - and realized his avatar is a GNOLL and remeberred form my OLD first printing MM that yeenoughu whats his name is the deity of BOTH playing the mind-numbing DDOnline broke me of the habit of tHINKING about such things so can someone a little more up on their greyhawk lore explain to me why or what the ramifications are of ghouls being of Yeenoughu? was he like the akasha of ghoulie-ness? did he send Gnoul Ghouls to spread this demonic plague to the world? Whats the origin tale here? i always wondered about ghouls being considered undead; they're very lovecraftian.. (pickman's model) maybe THAT is why its the same god i dunno... but thats exactly the point i was wondering if anyone had read or recalled any of Gygax's notes on that?
It is my belief that everything evil in the Gygax imagination had its roots in the works of H.P. Lovecraft. I saw the tail end of Dagon on SciFi this morning; no happy ending, there. Yeenoghu receives homage from the King of the Ghouls, thus their worship of him.
Re: Another Greyhawk discussion? DAGON Read the Shadow Over innsmouth? Gygax i think loved lovecraft nearly as much as he did tolkien... so i'm inclined to agree I bet you still have your Original Deities and Demigods - with lovecraft section (cthulhu mythos) both what were they called morkoth? and CETAINLY Mind Flayers were pretty obvious Lovecraft inclusion - what was the race cthulhu was? as to DAGON i dont know if you saw my 'article' on Original Drow - and why the new happy drow drove me from DDonline (that and the general suckiness of its power rangerr -ness) but i'm sure you recall being sent on the trail of the Drow and encountering KUO TOA (which i though were covered by Sahaugin - but it appears later those are from Blackmoor - Dave's take rather than gary's?) .... Back to Ghouls - i thought Yeenoughu was the GOD of Ghouls? what is this ghoul king? so i went an checked that out on wikipedia.. and i would almost SWEAR that was added since i used to play - i wish i had access to my OLD material - i suspect thats some of that go-back-and-rewrite revisionism that make me lose my love for my evil twin wolverine (what other writers did to claremont's character )
