you have to create the PORTRAITS folder yourself Cujo. just make a new folder and name it. then install your pics in tga format in there along with your portrait wizard if you decide to use one, probally best if you do, and make sure you have the portraits. mes file in there. that should be everything to get you started. good luck im still fighting with mine.
How do you look at NPC portraits? For example, Elmo, Turuko, Gnoll have protrates in the game but what do you have to do view them outside of the game?
i dont know if you can. ive never found them anywhere except the text in the portrait mes file but i have changed some of them to my own portraits

Considering that... fighters are fine because, even if they don't get the 2nd specialization, they have all bonus feats sorcerer doesn't go over L 13, dualclassing to bard make a mess with increased and maximized spells. bards arrives almost at level 16-17 After level 13, druids,clerics and wizards just get no L7, 8 and 9 spells but free slots to fill with meta-magic modified spells Ranger doesn't go up over level 13 because a weird lock with favored enemy barbarian gets nothing interesting after level 10 Monk dont' have some abilties improved but they get a huge AC and M.R, but still the unharmed damage won't go over 2D6. Thieves are still fine untill level 20 because they get more ability points and sneak attacks paladins are fine untill the end even if they don't get level 3 and 4 spells, but maybe they are better to dualclass to fighers after level 10 or to clerics after level 3. it worked out but..... ARRRRGGGGGGGGG! I doscoverd that Troika guys really abused of magical 2 handed swords ignoring other kinds of weapons! The holy avenger should be a longsword and not that Excalibur (EASTER-EGGscalibur ) 2 handed sword; the composite longbow is not considered a masterwork item and can't be enchanted (if Liv didn't add any masterwork version, I hope that she addedd the bow early in the game!), the +5 items can't be re-enchanted because they are lowered to +3, what a mess!!!!!!!!! I know I can't be made happy More the +5 shields are ugly, but no matter for this
If you don't like the weapons you could try making new ones by modding your protos, I've been doing some experiments, and now have a werewolf as a PC altho he's to strong and i'll have to make him weaker, and I'm trying to make new weapons and armour more to my game playing style and what I think looks good
Excalibur was originally a one handed long sword, someone changed it somewhere in the patches or fan mods. If you get the original protos.tab file you can edit the look and feel back to the original. I know I have. I don't care for two handed swords personally. -Firestrand
I think that there are already too many powerful long and 2 handed swords in the game but still: how I am supposed to modify the protos tab? If someone may give me hints about the modding proces, lend me some tools or any help about it, I would glady start to make interesting items to share with the Co8s.
modding tutorial there is a modding tutorial here you just need the proto editer to do weapons and a hex editer if you want to make new PCs, if you have used the patches your files will already be extracted. the links in the post don't work but theres a proto editer some where. try this
I think the reason there's so many magical long swords and two-handed swords is because those are the "default" weapons. Most sword and shielders do long sword and most two-handers do great sword. On the random magical item generation charts, I seem to recall those two weapons have the highest percentage chance.
Where are the moderators some of the threads really sould be sticky so all the newbies can find them.

well after 369 posts I don't think that I'm a newbie anymore and on the eve of my mod release* I would like to say... Thanks everyone for your help *Teds got it as I can't figure out how to ftp it and he's tweeking up some of my content that I didn't know how to do.
Yup and Ted has just done his sound commitments, and Cujo's mod is now the top of his list. Will post it tomorrow, though some associated adventures might take another week or so to implement. Cujo - you're new here. Don't speak unless spoken to. :X
