No moathouse respawn

I am playing through a 5.8.1 NC game and I have worked through most of the new content. Welkwood and the orcs etc. Got a house in nulb and have worked down a few levels in the temple.

I got brother smythe to mention the mosthouse respawn but it hasnt activated. I did everything I thought might be stopping it.

Also I remember I used to get Verbobonc opened up by some prisoners in the temple but this time I havent managed it. Have I done something wrong or is there some easy way to open verb?

If I remember correctly, when you talk to Brother Smith (in hopes of getting the respawn) he tells you to go talk to Kent. At least it worked for me in 5.8.0NC.
Regarding Verbobonc, it is not accessible in 5.8.1NC

Kent is that annoying little boy that you first meet when you first arrive at Hommlet at the start of the game. He wonders around outside to the left of house number 4 on the map below during daytime. At night, I presume that he is inside house number 4.
