Good day, everyone. Here's my very sad story.

Lately, i was getting so bored as to remember the existence of Temple Of Elemental Evil - that was a nice game, i thought, why not play it again? I also was very lazy that day, so instead of suffering the pain of installing it from my CDs, i downloaded the thinapp. package v.02 complete with Atari patches and Co8 Modpack 5.8.1 NC Beta. That, i suspect, was my downfall.
Despite my careful execution of installation&activation instructions, the game fails to recognize the existence of Shop Map - my brave adventurers start their vignette in farmer garbs, bare handed. While the absence of weapons is not a major problem, after all, all combats in vignettes can be won barehanded, the absence of thieves' tools, bardic instruments and the like - is a problem. I checked quite a few times - even the amount of starting money is not determined randomly, it's just 500 gp and that's all. I've disabled "auto save on map change", but the issue is still an issue.
    Further still, feats like
    1. Skill Focus(tested with Open Lock, Disable Device and Perform - there is no bonus listed in character sheet or in the events log and the check is not modified)
    2. Spell Focus\Greater Spell Focus(tested with Bard and Enchantment. The save DC from the Tasha's Hideous Laughter should be 10+1[spell level]+4[charisma]+2[feats], but it's 16, so either level or one of the feats is ignored)
are not working. Also, my Bard didn't get the Inspire Competence on 3rd level. Weapons lack their usual special qualities, like special options for Trip on spiked chain. And yeah, i still got jerkstops and other general pathfinding issues.

Can anyone suggest what might be the cause of these problems? How do i shoot web heal this madness?

I don't know what this is...thinapp. package v.02 complete with Atari patches and Co8 Modpack 5.8.1 NC Beta. I've never heard of all of them being combined together in one download. I would say it is suspect.

I would follow the installation instructions to the letter and not deviate from them or use any shortcuts.

You should probably try a no-cd crack for Atari patch 2 (the 17kb compressed one), because it sounds like many of the .dll changes from our mod aren't in effect. If the .dll is bundled in the .exe in your version of the game, it will override our .dll.

    What is thinapp. package v.02?

That's supposedly all-encompassing package, which is able to launch itself from .exe file with no installation required for base content. It comes with Co8 Front-End X v2.2 and both 5.8.1 and 5.8.1NC versions of your mod(both are listed as BETA versions and i tried both to similar non-satisfying effect), so as to allow bonus content and fixes to be applied to the contents of package, and it, naturally, assures that this package is compatible with both the front-end and mods. But, as it seems, the author of that package seriously botched the "compatible" part. I am not sure if posting a direct link won't violate the rules of this forum, but, well - anyone interested can simply do a search on demonoid.

Currently i am in the process of installing the game from my old CDs, but they don't look like they were able to endure the raging of time. If that fails, i will try to find the not-packaged copy of the game. Whatever the outcome, i must say that what you do is great - i swept through the change-log and was left in awe. Thank you for your work.

I couldn't find it on a quick search on Demonoid. Can you post a link?

Done. All seems to work properly now, the substandard coding on behalf of package author was to blame for mischief.
Thanks for the timely advice and the mod. Best regards.

Re: bugs in Circle of Eight Modpack 5.8.1 NC

I have a "little" bug with the Extraplanar Chest.
The note inside it says that I can put in it magic items found in the game without them disappearing:

"Magic arms and armour you find will not suffer this effect, unless you have crafted additional attributes onto them."

I put inside only Lareth's breastplate +1 and a magic longbow +1 (found in the game) without any additional crafting. Everything seamed to work finely because I checked the extraplanar chest right after having put these items (and they were still there).
But after playing for a couple of hours, I re-invoked the chest and found nothing inside (except the note).

I guess that the "magic devouring creatures" from the etheral plane got pretty hungry? :dribble:

    EDIT:
I just checked and my last save was corrupted. The game crashed each time that I would save after a random encounter or each time that I reached a new area after a random encounter. I reloaded an old save and everything worked fine with the chest and with this random encounter problem.

Seriously? They are threads found in the News/Comments subforum in the Community forum.

Also, 5.9 will not contain WotGS...as was reported recently in the ToEE news thread. :gotmyatte
