I'm currently unable to install ToEE on my desktop computer as the CD drive apparently does not recognize it, but I was able to install and play the game on my old laptop using the same CDs. Is this the appropriate thread to find suggestions for fixes?

My first thought would be to test the drive. See if you can install other applications from CD onto it. And try to install your copy of ToEE onto another machine with a different CD-ROM drive. The answer should lie between those 2 things. Sounds like either your disks or your new laptop cd drive is broke.

    Re: ToEE Troubleshooting Checklist

Surely you are some sort of e-sorcerer. Are you a god? Either way, thanks for the help!

That's the peculiar thing, I've used the drive many times to watch DVDs/install games since trying to install ToEE but they all work. I've also reinstalled ToEE on my old laptop since I needed a fix a few weeks ago.

So: the disks and drive work separately *and* the drivers for the DVD/RW drive are allegedly up-to-date, leaving me in a WTF haze. Further, both OSs are the same (XP w/ SP3). I suppose I'll follow AusROM's recommended process of contacting SecuROM but I just hoped that someone experienced a similar issue and there would be a simple fix to it.

Although I suppose I should be grateful that it's not working, as it introduced me to the firepower of this fully armed and operational battle forum community. Which is pretty sweet. Cheers to all of you hard workers.

This is currently happening to me as well...still futzing with it. Program works fine after initial install. After a couple runs, it crashes to desktop after the splash screens (during initializing sectors). Cannot uninstall. I reinstalled over it, stilll was not functional, but was able to uninistall it. I picked up the revo uninstaller freeware, worked well. Now if I can just keep the damn thing from becoming nonfunctional so I can play again (good to see Co8 still up after all these years!).

    Running Windows 7 64 bit....

Edit: Well i totally misread that...thought he wrote uninstall (was so hoping someone else had that problem  )

Did a clean reinstall and added the mod pack (5.8.1) prior to going in and it now runs smooth. It does hang up for me in the original 800x600 so I edited the CFG for 1920x1080. Looks great but it's so small :twitch: Will keep futzing!
