Hi guys just found your amazing site.

I've been trying to get TOEE to work on my laptop with windows 7 but am struggling.
I've read all the guides and tried the patches and front end but no matter what I do, including run in SP2 compatibility and as admin the games boots me back to the desktop once I've selected my party.

Tearing my hair out here, is there anything else I can try?

    Just to update

I can get the game to run on patch 1 only but the game will only run once.
As soon as the .cfg file appears it will crash after the splash screens.

If I delete the .cfg file then I can play.

If I install patch 2 the game will not run at all and crashes to desktop after the splash screens regardless of the .cfg file.

This is both in SP2 and admin mode.

Looks like I'm not going to be able to play this game again sob :(

Did you try running both the TFEX file and the TOEE file as SP2 admins?

I can't even install. As soon as I insert the Install disc, I'm told there was an error and the disc won't run.

    is your cd clean?

    i'd uninstall all,

reinstall and add patch 2 only

    if it runs,

then install the tfx thingy in the 5.7 beta

remember, you gotta let it run, don't hit any keys because it takes a while to install
it looks like nothing is happening

then try to activate the module you want.

I just went through some re installs in January and it was frustrating.

mostly me trying to force stuff to happen.

i still get a few crashes now and then, but way less bugs than when i first loaded TOEE.

Some of the folks over on the Civ4 boards were having similar issues with Windows 7. You might want to install to a custom directory instead of program files. It seems that Windows 7 doesn't allow user operated programs to modify some files in the program files directory, mucking up saves and such.

Also, you are running ToEE with administrator priviledges, right?

I've been running ToEE flawlessly on Windows 7 since late January. Works like a charm. What compatibility mode are you using? Mine is running, oddly enough, under Windows XP service pack 2 compatibility.

I've got it working now. I have compatibility set for windows XP service pack 2 for both toee and toee-x, I run them both as administrator, and it only seems to work when no other applications are open.

Hello everyone! I'm on the forum newbie. I live in Russia, so I writing through Google Translate. Sorry for my English.

I have Windows 7 64-bit, I installed ToEE, the first and second patches and mod Co8 5.7.2 played for about a week without problems. But then when the game opened the first location of the Temple, the game crash. And no longer runs. Do what is described in the forum, but nothing helped. Reinstall the game once again, installed the two patches and this time decided to run the game without compatibility with XP Sp2, and without admin, and game run without problems. Straight miracle! On what operating system is best to run ToEE Co8?

Different people advocate Windows 98 and XP, but it can run on any modern OS. Vista and 7 have technical issues at times, but once you get around them I don't think the functionality is any different.

    Welcome to Co8. :)

i don't recall ANY issues with win7 64bit... and I am explicitly NOT using any "compatibility modes"...

Could it be the DRM giving you issues maybe?
