I love the rain. The only problem is I live near hills so when we get rain, we usually also get lots of wind, and I hate wind. Well, I like light wind, in fact, I love a light breeze of refreshingly cool air, but I hate strong wind, like the kind that rolls down off hills.

I used to love how the rain would come through my hometown, sometimes. The rain would start at one end of the town and drift over the town like a wall of water. Creeped me out the first time I saw it, but after I realized that weird shadow on the ground coming at me was just rain, I came to the conclusion it was one of the coolest things ever.

 

lol that DOES sound cool, where is your hometown? I personally LOVE rain and I'm missing it a lot this winter

 

I grew up in a town with a lot of rain and wind. So I like them both. Not too fond of hurricanes, though. Worst I've experienced here is a tropical storm, a downgraded hurricane that made its way inland...but that was enough. The way the pine trees around my home danced and swayed was a sight to see...and to hear.

I was concerned enough to pull the couches together at right angles to make a kind of fort, then put my mattress between them. Sort of silly, I guess...but it made me feel better. The cats, too.

this area in Florida. Nippy at night, warmish in the daytime.

A maintenance day for me. Meaning housework. And working on
my temple.

My hometown is Fernley, Nevada, in the States, in case you're from another part of the world. It is pretty cool. Only happens from time to time, and I've actually seen it in a few spots in Northern Nevada, probably because of the desert + nearby mountains.

o.o I'd probably make a fort out of more than 2 couches and a mattress. Tropical storms would scare the crap out of me.

Btw, what's this about a temple?

 

I like to watch the wind blow the rain, making it dance in sheets. When I lived near a river, with fir trees and sugar pines along it, I liked to watch the wind come up the river, by seeing the trees sway when it got to them, and hear the trees rustle and roar. Every morning the wind would go down the river, and then in the evening come back up. Dunno why. The river, a small one, issued from a glacier and the water was icy cold. But it was also in a valley that twisted between the mountains.

I have a temple on Second Life. I am in the process of modifying it and making it mine...takes me a long time, since I don't know much about building and have to do things by trial and error. My bf built it, originally.

It has the elements/seasons in each quarter for the directions (and the Guardians), with small altars for each, a pentacle where you can sit and meditate in the middle, and a transparent roof with a pentacle imbedded in it, and an altar.

Another night...quiet out and dark. A light wind blowing,
not enough to make the windchimes ring. Nice.

The night has always called to me and been a haven
when my brain is too busy to tolerate the noise and
glare of the day.

A pity that there are not more birds aloft at night.

Ah, but Spring comes soon, and the fresh green
leaves and birdsong in the trees will bring me forth
into the early day again.

Out on my porch and the neighbors will once again
think I am spying on them when the truth is that I
could care less what they are doing. The neighbors
are peripheral to the birds and the green Spring.

But Spring is not here yet.

The moon, still mostly dark, waxes. It is warmer
again tonight.

Fear and it's blanket, Anger, pulls the strength
from your mind if kept there too long, so let them
go before it is time to drift into sleep and dream...
or your dreams may not float you away, but crash

A long and boring night at work. I should be grateful,
as the other extreme, while fast paced, is more difficult
to deal with. Am I grateful? No.

But. Step outside and what do I see? An upside down
moon that looks exactly like a smile. Now, I could take
that as the entire universe (or at least the immediate
planetary system) is laughing at me. On the other hand,
perhaps it is the Lady's way of smiling on me.

I have been asking often enough.

Lol, I'd say the Lady was smiling on you. The universe tends to laugh in far more cruel ways than an upside down moon. I used to hang out on Second Life with a group of Star Wars fans who were into building/costuming, but got kinda bored with that. Second Life demands entirely too much money to hold my interests. I didn't mind hanging out on the island the group was paying for and donating from time to time, but when I found out that having any land of my own would be ridiculously expensive for cyberspace, I lost interest.

I agree (re the universe et al).

A friend and I have an island. We split it. You can get them cheap if you don't intend on running a business or having a lot of people live there.

You don't have to spend money if you don't want to (except for land, you are right on that), but SL is definitely in it for the money.

Still...as far as entertainment goes, it beats gambling or drinking.

 

I beg to differ. I can find plenty of happiness with wasting my money on flashy, noisy machines and drinks of drunkenness.

 

I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder, heh.

On a serious note, I've never been much of a gambler. I like penny ante poker, though. But haven't done that in awhile, now.

I'll skip the drinks of drunkeness. There are definitely better ways of feeling good. And you remember them. Clearly.

During a thunderstorm today, it rained harder than
I have ever seen it (or heard it, either). The overflow
catchment ponds were nearly full. Never seen that
before either.

My neighbor's house, in back of mine and a little lower,
was surrounded with water. Not very deep, but a huge
puddle. The streets were also flooded. I was worried
there for awhile that the entire area would flood if the
rain kept up, but it finally quit. We lost power twice.

When it rains hard here, you can't even see through it.

And California is getting hit hard by one storm after
another. A couple of the areas where I lived had road
closures, flooding and mudslides (fun to come around
the corner on a narrow mountain road, peering through
the rain, and suddenly have to slam on the brakes to
avoid the mudslide occurring right in front of you, then
hurriedly throw the car into reverse so you can back far
enough away to not get caught in the sideways spread
of the mud).
