I have tried to befriend Lareth with the hope that he would be captured and then freed (by my party) to have him as a trader. How do you trigger this? I know you have to be his friend but what do you have to do to get him captured and thus free him? I know how to free him but I am playing an evil party and have tried all game to see him in the tower (Burne's) and he has not been caught. And ideas? It has been a long time since I tried this. Moreover, I am playing 5.5.0.

I believe that Lareth just will "appear" at the rufus/Burne tower after ya talk with his guys at the temple tower and say to they ya'll bring Lareth back safe to they.

    SPOILER!!!!

You need to have Lareth join your party. At this point you can take him anywhere in the game except the tower and he will fight with you. If you take him to Hommlet, he will try to flee but you can say something along the lines of "They cant kill you if we kill them first" and he will stay in the party.

In order to make him a trader do the following:
    1) Get him in the party
    2) Have him take you to the broken tower
    3) Do not go in the broken tower, you just want the map location.
    4) Go to Homlet, let him run away
    5) Go to the broken tower, enter and the NPC's will accuse you of killing Lareth. Deny it and say you will find him.
    6) Go to Hommlet, and Burne's tower. Burne or a guard will tell you that they found an evil cerlic (I think this is optional).
    7) If you go down a level in burnes tower, the guards down there will kick you out.
    8) Go to the main floor of burnes tower. Cast invisibility on all of your party members.
    9) Go back down, sneak past all of the guards, go down another level to the dungeon/basement.
    10) You see Lareth naked and insane. Cast dispel magic on him and he comes to his senses and joins the party.
    11) Either cast invisibility on him and sneak him out of the tower, or teleport out.
    12) Take him to the broken tower, he will leave the party. Exit to outside, come back in, and he is a trader, and the broken tower is a resting point.

But does he trade cool enough items to offset the whole assassin/ambush loot? He better have some +3 arms and armor, minimum. I think I'm going to have to try this on this three day holiday weekend from work.

isn't there a dilaog option that will let him join and get the necklace? if not you could allways just pickpocket him and sell what you manage to get :D

(from a role playing point of view of getting assinated for killing him and being on his side and letting him live; if his own (tower) people thought he was dead, why shouldn't ramos + co. do so? prusming they send the assition before he gets captured.)

    Ranth: Thank you very much.

I realize I neglected to take him to the tower. Oh well.

I guess I will try to do this with another evil party as I am FAR too along to start again.

I would like to state that I think Lareth is the most underused character in the game. If you actually read the original supermodule (which I am doing right now, funny enough) you would realize that he is no ordinary bad guy, but a prodigy of evil. I would suggest to any modder out there that this NPC alone could be a great point of development. For example, does he get away (as he has with me) and then "find me" later with a much stronger party, or perhaps he could be a part of Verb.... all I am saying is that the original Troika team greatly underutilized what could of been a huge point of the game. Granted, they only went by the rules but that is not to say CO8 could not do more. Most good parties simply kill him, evil ones either kill him or have him join but he could play a MUCH larger role, especially when the spiders in Verb are added in the mix....

The ambush will hapens even if Lareth is in your party, if I currectly remember - it's strange, I know - and the Assassin quest don't need to be offseted, becose you shall loot Lareth, killing him and after ressurrecting him, or even just causing enough non-lethal damage to knock him out. Once I have him along with the party when I fought the assassin....

You can also take Lareths boots and sell them to the traders with humble NPCs active.

I too am curious what Lareth sells. Is the fact he is evil also indicitive of the gear he sells? Just curious as next time around I would like to know what to expect.

InventorySource.mes has a list of all inventories by Description.mes number. You could look it up and see what all is in his inventory.

    Hi,

I am trying to complete the Free Lareth Quest and am having some trouble; I went with Lareth to the tower , went back to Hommlet to let him escape and then back to the tower giving the appropriate responses to the brigands questions concerning Lareth. My question is when talking to the brigands about Lareth will they always attack even if you say you will find Lareth? Cause that's what they did with me. I cleared out the tower went back to Hommlet but neither Burne or the guards said anything about finding an evil cleric and I checked the lower area of the tower and Lareth wasn't there..:help:
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I do not have a definite answer to this but based on the dates when the original posts where made about this event, I think they pre-date 5.8. It might be worth trying on 5.5. I hadn't know of this line of events before and it does sound interesting.
