I look at a lot of other sites and the majority of the comments are negative. I think the impression out there is the game is a bugged out pain to play. How do we spread the word that the game has been patched/modded and is a very playable game now. It is still on the shelves at game stores and Wal-Mart, and the more people that buy and play, and enjoy it, the better off we'll be. All the people that worked so long and hard making all the improvements need a reward. Increased sales and players that enjoy the game would be nice. Spread the word.
The initial impression was spot-on, because ToEE on release was horribly bugged. Even after 2 1/2 Atari patches and 3 Co8 patches, it's still kind of buggy. As for spreading the word, this site is the best thing going. I don't see a lot of potential for added sales for Atari due to 3rd party mods, however. The only people (by and large) who will know about new mods are those who already have the game and know to look here. Rewards . . . that has always been kind of a "Job" thing; modders are longsuffering. The only solace I can think of is that for modders, "the action is the juice," i.e., the pleasure of doing it is reason enough to do it.
I suppose the word gets around pretty fast within the crpg community anyway, with the internet as such. But, I wonder how many people gave up on the game initially and haven't gotten the word. Is there a larger group out there who would buy and play the game. Or is this a small elitest group not looking for a larger audience?
I think that Co8 has some leverage here...If contact is made with Atari/Troika about releasing the editor, I think some haggling could be done with regards to Co8 4.0.0. If Atari could make additional money by the Co8 patch becoming "official" (by submitting it to Atari QA), contigent upon them releasing the WorldEd to you guys/gals, that might make some much needed movement in this area
