In order to counter some of the negativity (and maybe get my fate raised to a slightly higher level of hell), what is your FAVORITE Christmas Song(s)? I used to be in chorus when I was young, so I have quite a few.

My favorite is probably "Oh, Holy Night!". When well-performed solo, it STILL gives me chills. I don't have a favorite performance, but the singer absolutely MUST throw down and really get INTO it.

Thats a good'un, but damn difficult to sing. I once tried to lead a small congregation doing it and it was a fiasco (but fun).

    Mine are

    - Adeste Fidelis, the absolute king of carols.

    - Little Drummer Boy. The absolute prince of carols. :)

Definitely two of my favorites. I could do OHN when I was young, even the sustained high note. Then puberty hit.

Oh man, I just remembered the best christmas songs ever in the history of christmas. Anyone over 30 should recall the old time christmas shows that weren't cartoons but stop -action figures. Like the year without a santa claus, santa claus is coming to town, etc. Burl Ives sang the godfather of all christmas songs, "Silver And Gold" and then how about that song that the two brothers sang, the cold/winter brother and the hot/summer brother..."I'm mister green christmas, I'm mister sun! I'm mister heat blister, I'm mister 101! They call me heat miser, whatever I touch, starts to melt in my clutch! I'm too much!"

    Pure unadulterated win! :pelvicthr

Let's put these guys in the next mod! In the water and fire nodes!

    I don't think I have a favorite. I like too many.

The Little Drummer Boy (of course!)
Oh Holy Night (chills with this one)
Silent Night (I had the solo on this one)
Jingle Bells (who doesn't like this one?)
The one that goes: "We 3 Kings of Orient are..." I remember our whole classroom practicing that one in elementary school and the fun we had with it after class. Today I can only remember the um revised words, almost all of them.

I'm sure there are others that I just can't think of.

Good going, GA82. Brought back some fun memories.

Seconded! I almost forgot about the happiness part...

Its "We Three Kings". (yes, I'm serious! :poke:)

Raised Catholic, you can't forget those. Or Advent wreaths.

As for my favourites, gotta go with "O Tannenbaum", "Adeste Fidelis" (great call Ted!), "O Holy Night" (right there with you re: the chill factor. Something about that song....) and "What Child is This?" (Ya know, "Greensleaves?)

Oooo thats a good-un! Heard it a couple of months back, piped over the speakers at a cinema while waiting to see Harry Potter 6 and killing time discussing quality music with an Irish chick. We both recognised Shane McGowan instantly, of course. Surreal but glorious moment.

Any of the Pogues before Shane was kicked out is pretty awesome.

I have contemplated a bard based on him, where his charm is not sky high due to his excessive drunkenness and less than stellar teeth.
