Neverwinter Nights I've Really wanted to get it, but have heard too many gripes about bugs & technical problems.
I tried it on a computer that had a dual processor and it broke my computer. Someone with more technical skill might not have had the same problem. And maybe they have fixed it by now. It seems players either love NWN1 or NWN2. Very polarized. Big fights about which is best on the Bioware forums. A friend of mine says the various mods for NWN1 make NWN1 far exceed NWN2. I wouldn't know. Cost too much to fix my computer, and I won't try it again.
I didn't have any technical problems with NWN2 at all. No CTD, no corrupted saves, nothing. One of the most stable games I ever installed. I have a quadcore rig with GF 8800 GTX card, 4 gig ram. Load times 1-3 sec, save times instantaneous. On the same rig ToEE will crash once in a while and load/save times are much longer. It really seems to depend on whether you're lucky with the hardware specs.
Is NWN2 the 3d one? If so, I was unable to play that last time I tried. Whichever is the one where you start off in a prison cage and get set free somehow (explosion?) I played for about 20 minutes and got bored. EDIT: The cage one is BG2, which I didn't like after 20 mins.
No tech problems on my pc with NWN 2.. yet I must say i really disliked it for the story and the bad implementation of d&d rules.
Only played NWN2 and I did enjoy it. My only complaint... the camera. It's quite fidgety and can be a pain, especially during battles. A little patience and "trial-and-error" made it bearable. Lots and lots of player made mods and such out there too!
I have played NWN2 and the expansions with no problems. I have a dual core machine (Pentinum D) with a Nvidia 7800 256MB graphics card and Soundblaster Audigy. The game and expansions were fun. They did not adhere strictly to the D & D core set but neither did BG1 or II (which I also enjoyed). But YMMV.
I found the campaign more enjoyable than NWN1. Seriously, the 1st one adhered to one rule. Every chapter had a scenario in which you had to collect 4 things to get further. Utter boredom. Also, I liked NWN2 for party based combat, somewhat more tactical approach to gameplay and a surprisingly good campaign. The downside was the horrible engine... (long load times, tedious controls, awfullly stiff animations and tons of bugs). A much better idea would've been to dump the old Aurora and write the game with a completely new one... well they didn't have time or money to do so, so that's what we got. Also, I was happy to see that the game abided a bit more strictly to the 3rd ED rules than the first one but it was nothing as great as in ToEE rulewise.
I finished it just to get to Mask of the Betrayer. Found most of it cringeworthy. Some of it was fun though (the keep, demons).
Yeah, I know what you mean. I tried to get back to it after a while and simply couldn't. You can say that the controls are tedious at best.
Yup, that pretty much made me give up on the game pretty early on... That and a bunch of other little things.
Hi! I played NWN1 and 2...love this games. But i still enjoy more the first game. The camera is the only thing i dint like...if they would fix it there would mor "Fahrvergnügen"...played about a year, then i returned to Toee. Sorry for my bad english, i need mor practice.
