I had been playing TOEE with my ATI x800 card with no problems after installing the CO8 mod pack. I reinstalled my ATI HD 4870 (had to replace the cooler as the fan was fried when my old MB died) and now I have no TOEE love. The game acts as if it will start, the screen blacks out and then it dumps me right back to the desktop.:cartman: I tried unistalling and re-installing TOEE, then patch1, then patch 2, then the CO8 mod pack and I recieved a cd error. I found and installed the no cd patch hoping that would work but I am right back to getting dumped back to the desktop:chainsaw:. Does anyone have a solution?
System is a Phenom II x4 945 4Gb ddr3 1066 Screen res set to 1280x 1024 Everything is exactly the same as when the X800 was installed. The only difference is the installation of the HD4870.
I'm running the same card, under Vista no less. I had to manually correct the resolution in mine, but yours should be OK. What Catalyst drivers are you using? 9.9 is the latest.
I don't know what drivers I was using originally but I updated to 9.9 and still no luck. I am running XP however.
Okay now I am losing my mind. I reinstalled the old X800 card....still no luck. I uninstalled and re-installed everthing with no success either. I did note that I only have the CO8 mod pack 5.5.0 downloaded. I tried to get the 5.6.0 but apparently the link is broken for the download at the site you have to go to get it.
You probably need to un-install from the control panel, then delete everything toee. Install up to patch 2 and try the game from there with the cd only. If it plays okay, then install 5.6. When you activate 5.6, make sure you wait until you get the successful activate message. Select your options and save, then quit. Come back up and install patch 5.6.1, re-do your options and stuff. Save then quit. Come back up and play and hope it works.
There are mirror sites for 5.6.0 working at ModDB. Your video issue sounds like a problem on your end - video drivers or whatnot - not an issue with the mod. Thus, reinstalling the game/mod probably won't help anything.
I am goint to try again this morning with a fresh head. Alas I went to Moddb and no matter what mirror I try the same thing happens. It will not automatically download and when I click on the link to force the download all I get is a small window of mixed up characters. I have uninstalled eveything, toee, modpack, drivers, CCC, everything and will reinstall using newest drivers, CCC, and modpack 5.5.0 since that is all I can get and I'll let you know how it works.
The Filefront mirror just worked for me, also ModDB Netherlands, Colorado USA x2, and Texas USA. I'm not quite sure what the deal is, but there's not a lot we can do about it since ModDB is a third party host. If it persists we'll drop them a note to see what's up.
:yes:Success!!! I could have sworn I did all of the same uninstall/install yesterday but I am now up and running! The only thing I did completely differently this time was to install to my C drive which I never do that was an unintentional accident since all non-system related things usually go on a separate partition. I am still using 5.5.0 which if i am correct has the added content where 5.6.0 removes most of the added content. I probably play it both ways and see which I prefer. Thanks to all for the input.
