    Hi guys!

So I've finished reading Terry Pratchett's City Watch series and I thought it'd be interesting to try and take the Watch through the Temple!

Here's what I've got so far:

(I'm guessing most of you have read the books but if there's anybody that haven't....wellm, go ahead, get them and read them! Then maybe come back and chip in with your thoughts?)

**spoilers (books wise) ahead. Please, please don't continue if you haven't read the books. I'd hate if I spolied your reading experience**

    1. Commander Sam Vimes. Rogue1/FTRx/bardx(?).

His first level is to account for his experiences growing up in the poorest, toughest 'hood in Ankh Morpork. The 1d6 sneak attack that comes with it accounts for his celebrated style of dirty fighting.

Bard levels will reflect his command and the inspiration he lends while coppering about.

    Alignment: Neutral Good
Weapons: longsword+shield/crossbow (repeating as soon as we find one)

    2. Captain Carrot. PAL4/FTRX

Captain Carrot's first 4 levels as a Pally account for his honesty as described in the books. The rest of his development as a fighter will reflect what he learned during his time in the Watch. While he will never break the law his interaction with the rest of the Watch (mostly Sam Vimes) taught him that the law sometimes can be bent (if ever-so-lightly) if the situation warrants it.

    Alignment: Lawful Good
Weapons: longsword+shield / darts or shurikens will have to do as in-game replacements for dwarf bread

    3. Sargeant Angua. DRDX/???

Being a druid allows Angua to shapeshift. She fights unarmed all the time and carries light leather as protection when in human form. She will use an animal companion (Gavin) in case of emergencies.

I have considered multiclassing her into a Monk but she's not a very wise character. Her...animal side usually overrides her human side and makes it difficult for her to think things through.

Alignment: True Neutral / Chaotic Neutral??
    Weapons: Unarmed

    4. Lance-Constable Nobby Nobbs. ROGX

Ah...Nobby. An expert in the taking of things not nailed to the floor. Grew up on a diet of sawdust and Cut-me-own-throat-Dibbler's sausages way past their best by date (which is saying an awful lot) so he never got to develop a penchant for fighting (it's hard to fight when you weigh less than any standard weapon, if you don't count how much the grime that covers him weighs, that is) but that doesn't mean he will let a chance pass to kick whatever has been brought down by the other coppers.

He has spent mos of his adult life by Sam Vimes' side. The whole of Ankh Morpork would be a rather different place if little Nobby hadn't bump into Sam on that fateful day.

    Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
    Weapons: Light blunt weapon/dagger.

    5. Lance-Constable Detritus

Der is nofink dat stops der crim-in-als like the site of a 1,000 lb mound o walkin granite. Detritus serves that function. Rescued from a life of petty crime by Sam Vimes, Detritus is the er...muscle...er...concrete of the party. Taking advantage of his bulk, this troll has been equiped with a modified siege engine that now functions as the worlds largest shoulder-fired crossbow. If for some strange roll of the dice there's anything left after this piece of equipment has been fired, Detritus still has the option of going to town with his bare hands against whatever it is that doesn't have enough sense not to have fled the scene.

    Alignment: True Neutral
    Weapons: Heavy Crossbow / Unarmed

    Now for my questions:

    1. Classes/levels. Please share your thoughts as to what would make this party more enjoyable level by level. I do not want advise to optimize it for level 20. I'd like advice as to what is going to let me consistently....prod buttocks...from lvl 1 on up. Case in point, Commander Vimes: I think his bard level(s) should come in quite early but I dont know if that will ruin him what with the level of rogue he will have.

    2. Spells. Angua will be the only one with spells but she won't use any attack magic. Sam would never approve of using magic in any case. She will use whatever helps her in her shifter form, though. Anything I should not miss? I've never played with a Druid like this before!

    3. Characters. Detritus will have to be a very big half-orc (damnit!). Anybody knows if it's impossible to get other templates for character creation? Something like the half-giant that some brilliant modder made available at character selection?

I don't have the heart to include Fred Colon in the party...besides, what could I possibly have him be?

Pretty much like my previous King Arthur party, there won't be any resurrections in this play-through. DEATH wouldn't have any of that (the only exception would be Commander Vimes...) so I will have the rest of the cast in stand-by should the worse come to pass. This includes Cheery Longbottom (Dwarf FTR) and Sally (the Black Ribboner).

    All input most welcome!

You may need to rethink the alignments, as you won't be able to have a LG and CN in the same party.

With the unarmed characters you will have to select unarmed in the martial weapon feat to advoid AOOs. I would just add a level of monk instead for the flury-of-blows thing.

A level of Monk reduces your overall BAB

Ook! Yah, I didn't realize I had incompatible alignments. Will sort that out.

Can anyone explain about the BAB loss from one level of Monk? Is it very noticeable? I've notieced the game is very tough on low level characters (say up until lvl3 or thereabouts). Should I wait a couple of levels before multiclassing?

Multiclassing, twoweaponfighting, etc don't work well at the lower levels. But, at the higher levels they can become a big advantage. Any class can be effective in it's own right and you can build a powerhouse of any class. The feats, skills, spells are all there. It's just a matter of time.
