You are assuming that all the high level content has to do with combat. Scenarios can be constructed where the party gets to run a stronghold or castle. They have to become adept in political intrigue and subterfuge. They have to use their wits and charm, not just their sword arm. One of the best campaigns I was evolved required the party to turn a broken down keep into a defensible position within a month. The party had to adventure to get the needed money, fortify the keep and raise and train an army. The DM got the idea from playing NWN2. It was fun and challenging. Not everything has to be hack and slash. A good DM learns to strike a balance.

But this has nothing to do with ad&d computer games. The reason you don't see many of them catering to higher levels is because there just isn't anything the game can challenge you with, unless rules were modified a good bit to lean in the enemy's favor. Like in Neverwinter Nights, realm of the underdark or whatever the name was, along with all the other ones out there, icewind dale 1 and 2, baldur's gate 1 and 2, and a huge bunch of others that aren't made officially to be ad&d, like Diablo 1 and 2, Sacred, Divinity and Beyond Divinity, Stonekeep, Heroes for the xbox, etc. Even in ToEE, I've read of people just thrashing Iuz on the lower level. I'd love to see some real fear and frustration in players with a high level game that makes it almost impossible to beat. World Of Moneycraft comes sort of close with needing people for raids and stuff, but that requires you to have to put up with others instead of single player micro-managing.

I know. It just came to me. An ad&d game of The Tomb Of Horrors, where there's millions of lethal traps everywhere and the traps that aren't lethal completely bone you over so badly that you pick up your 32" flat panel LCD, throw it against the wall and then finish it off by jumping on it until it cries "uncle". Oh yeah babay, that's the stuff. :pelvicthr

OMG..That was bad enough as PnP...I shudder to think what it would be like as a video game...move 5 ft, check for traps...move 5 ft, check for traps...:twitch::twitch:

Guess you weren't here when I went through ToEE. Talk about fear and frustration! Many people helped me through to the end. I cried when I beat the game, just sat there and
    cried.

'Course I'm a newbie. Relatively speaking. Even strickly speaking.

And I am glad for that. I'd have hated to be bored.

Aah, the good old days... takes me back to when a young and innocent Scryler first set foot into the first circle of the 9 Hells that is Co8. Now she can't get enough of us degenerates!

And we love her for it!!

  10. I'd prefer to have the original Start->Temple section of the game released with WB and all the XP boosters and such pulled out (basically, the way it is intended to end up in Co8 6.0) done first. That way we already have the effectively completed version to play with, and the high-level additions would be coming in 4-5 months (with any luck ;)). I'd simply rather have the more-or-less completed low/mid-level game to play through before getting into the new content.
