Help!! No-CD error (fixed) Okay, I'm not sure what's going on here. I had to re-install my TOEE game so all my previous stuff is gone. I followed the normal procedure that I followed last time (install the game, then patch 1, then patch 2, then expand the c08 .rar file into the TOEE folder, then (because the game never verifies my disk, even though I paid for it) install the 33kb no-cd file. But, even though this has worked half a dozen times before, I am now getting this message: "There was an error launching ToEE. Make sure your game installation is intact. This error is fatal, the program will quit." This happens no matter whether I'm running vanilla or the co8 mod. I think the no-cd file is corrupt and I've tried 3 other versions with the same result. Could my AVG anit-virus be doing this? On another thought, does anyone konw how to get AVG to stop telling me that the TOEE.exe file is a virus? BTW, I'm running Vista x64 with SP2 as well as Framework updated to SP2.
It almost sounds like you didn't let the mod completely finish loading. It does take a long time but you do get a message window advising you when it's done. If you're referring the the Trojan warning, don't sweat it, just delete the message. It's a false positive. Besides, you know how it'll go if you start fiddling with one little thing to stop a message. Pretty soon....:dead:
It's likely that AVG is blocking/quarantining your no-cd .exe, but this could also be caused by not running ToEE as Administrator under Vista.
I understand where you're coming from guys but I'm not new at this. Not only did I shut AVG down, but I removed it from starting up and restarted the computer. Same message. I have enabled administrator priveleges on both the TOEE.exe and TFE-X.exe files and have them running in XP combatibility. This only happens with the no-cd file. When I try running the regular TOEE.exe file, everything works (at least until it tells me that my totally legal, bought cd is a fake). Tried something else. Went to a buddies place and had him copy his TOEE.exe file onto a flash drive so I could use that. When I got home, I could not copy or paste the file off of my flash drive (I kept getting two different permission pop-ups then it tells me I don't have permission). I could delete it and then cut and paste from the recycle bin to the TOEE directory. When I try to run that no-cd TOEE.exe file (without the front end), I get this: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." Again, I have set administrator priveleges, so I don't know what could be causing this.
It's AVG, there is no way to go around it but uninstalling the antivirus. I uninstalled it and installed Avast instead, and it works like a charm.
Elhoim, you rock dude!!! I had thought that just shutting down AVG would be enough. Apparently, that is not the case. After a full uninstall of AVG, TOEE now works fine. I don't know what other anit-virus to use now, though. The last time I tried to install Avast, it crashed my computer and I had to restore to a previous restore point just to fix it. Ah well, maybe I'll have to gut it up and pay for Mcafee (don't suggest Norton, I've used it and hate it). As a note to the mods, maybe someone should sticky a note or add something to the installation instructions that AVG will not allow a no-cd TOEE game to run.
I'm glad you got it working (minus AVG) - but if you had problems with AVG, you will almost certainly have problems with McAfee. I use McAfee, and I have to regularly restore the cracked .exe and also temporarily shut McAfee down to play the game. I have heard in the past that you can tell AVG to ignore a file like the crack - in fact, I think the instructions for doing so were posted in the Trojan warning sticky but I'm too lazy to verify - but I have it straight from McAfee technical support that there is no way to tell that program to ignore a file, even if you know it is a false positive virus detection.
