Hi all, I'm new here. I'm a big PC RPG fan with PS:T and Baldurs Gate currently being my favorite. I actually only herd of TOEE and was surprised to hear it has been released for quite some time now, shame I missed the initial release/hype of this game but by the looks of this forum it seems to be still very popular so that looks promising I have the TOEE disc ready to install and was hoping to find some kind of 'Ultimate Install Order' post or similar, does one exist or am I going blind? Any help would be very much appreciated. Fingers crossed I will enjoy the TOEE experience and hope to see you around the forums! Thanks,
Welcome! For Installation instructions for the Co8 mod, see this thread: http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=6695 Have fun!
Thanks very much I prefer to play all my games with out a CD if possible, I hear there is a NOCD for TOEE but there seems to be some confusion over which to use, they are 3 versions am I right? What would you suggest to use? Or is it best just to keep cd in?
Use the CD's. They usually work better than the NO-CD crack, but be warned, a few have had strange issues even with the CD's. If it works great. If not, you'll have some additional work to do.
Thanks for reply Emirkol, advice taken on-board. I'm using XP and most of my components are quite common. I very rarely have problems with even the most problematic games, fingers crossed TOEE will be the same. If I were to install the NOCD, which version is best and where should it be applied in the install process? Kind regards,
I run ToEE on XP as well with the original CD's. I've had a false trojan warning once and awhile and one Secure Rom issue early on, but that seemed to be a one shot deal. Hopefully, you won't have any issues with the CD's and mod pack. Aside from a few minor bugs I never had any major disc type problems. For the no-CD crack, I believe it's the SMALLER of the two out there (file size that is). As to apply it, I can't answer that but I know it's in the ToEE forums somewhere. Do a search and you should get lucky. Or be patient and someone's bound to answer you. Don't ask for a link though, Co8 doesn't do that. Grey, dangerous legal areas with that sort of thing. You're on your own to find it. Welcome. You'll like it here!
You want the patch2 no cd, not the patch3 one, and i think from memory it is like 33kb toee securom actually causes my vista computer to bluescreen, so i cant play without the no cd
Thanks for reply, Am I right in saying I need nocd.2 because CO8 does not work on the latest official patch? So if I were to run just TOEE and latest official patch I would need nocd.3? Thanks,
The game patches and the NO CD's dealie are separate things. For the regular ToEE patches you want patches 1 & 2. Not 3. For the NO CD you want the second (most recent) smaller No CD.
Actually the no-cds correspond directly to the patches. You'd use no-cd 1 if you had patched to only Atari 1, no-cd 2 if you're patched to Atari 2, and no-cd 3 if you're patched to Atari 3. The Co8 mod requires a patch level of Atari 2. It will not function properly with Atari 3 or just Atari 1. Therefore, you can use no-cd 3 with Atari patch 3 if you want, but not with the Co8 mod. The Co8 sweet spot is Atari patches 1 and 2 and the no-cd 2 that is 33kb in size. (Be aware that if you choose to play Atari patch 3 and no-cd 3, you'll probably have the looting bug, and you may not be able to launch the game at all on some systems.)
Hi all, Everything installed now and all seems to work great I've increased the res to 1650 x 1200 and the artwork is fantastic. I have not activated CO8 modpack yet though as I wanted to play through the tutorial first. Do I just 'activate' the module in the launcher whilst keeping TOEE active too? Cheers again,
Just activate the modpack. Vanilla TOEE is almost unplayable afaik. I have been gaming since the beginning. I remember seeing pong when it was new. TOEE is probably close to being my fave game of any genre/system. BG and NVN etc are great games but in my eyes they are games 'based' on DnD. TOEE is frustrating and even with the commendable amount of work put in by the people responsible for the C08 modpack it is still a little broken. But TOEE is so faithfull to DnD. It is the only time I have felt that often wished for feeling of playing a real pen and paper rpg in a computer game. Dont get frustrated. You will just end up re-installing it in a few months
Thanks very much for your reply sdOK. I'm getting stuck into the gameplay now and really enjoying it. I'm using pre-generated characters as I'm not 100@ on all the rules etc. I'm using a 1650 * 1200 res and everything looks fantastic, the artwork is really good. Only thing is the text is a little small on my 20" widescreen.
