Alright, Apologies in advance if I'm not posting this in the correct part, but After playing through Temple of Elemental Evil with the co8 5.5.0 mod, I come across Hedrack as usual. I start to beat the poor guy down, just to find him summoning up Iuz... Now how on earth do I kill a god?? he's slaughters each character one at a time!

Didn't Cutherbert come down and tell him to bugger off before?

When Iuz appears, keep your characters away from them, unless they are extremely uber powerful (capable only if you're using the console commands). Keep away long enough, usually 2-3 combat rounds, and Cuthbert appears to tkae Iuz out of the picture.

I've heard rumours of people actually killing Iuz, but I still find that hard to believe, unless you've consolded your characters to "godlike" status themselves.

Killing Iuz is entirely possible, if you metagame and prep specifically for that purpose. The most common strategy (which I've used in 5.06) is to buff your toughest fighter with many, many stoneskin spells and give him Frag and/or Scather - the Answering AoO's are the only reliable way of hitting him and doing damage.

I haven't gotten there in 5.5, though - so I hope things haven't changed in this version.

Exactly, I did it last weak on 5.5 with just a stright solo fighter - no meta gaming, (alltough he did have scanther; -consoled from the start emensily enjoyiable, but easy.) I managed to complete the game in just 3 afternoons when it normally takes me months - even zuggy at full strength wasn't much of a hassle. I recomend you do it atleast once.

I'm now playing through with 5.5 BETA and was expecting Iuz to show up, but I hit Hederack with feeblemind and then my paladin with +3 Holy Ranseur took him out on the next round. No Iuz at all. I guess he was too feebleminded to call on his deity :)

If he can't act when he is Near Death (or Badly Wounded?), he cannot summon Iuz.

I still wonder how tricky it is to time killing (must be killed, right?) Iuz so that Cuthbert arrives with no one to talk to. Then the party can attack Cuthbert.

Erkper, are you saying that multiple Stoneskins stack? Does that violate RAW?

Oh, yes - they stack. I've seen damage resistances work for enemies like that, too. It's been a while, so I don't remember exactly how it functions, but I do know there are great benefits to multiple stoneskins. (Even better if you combine that with the Periapt of Wound Closure - then even if Iuz gets through your stoneskins, he can only do subdual damage which can't kill you, and your clerics can heal you much easier.)

Should they stack? Probably not, but the SRD is rather vague on this point as far as I can tell.

However, it also says unnamed bonuses do stack, and I don't see any name to the damage reduction given by a stoneskin:

I was able to take out Iuz by summoning in a Chain Devil. Not that he did any damage to Iuz, But by placing him next to Iuz, the big guy focused all of his attacks on the CD, who conveniently has regeneration and won't die, even after going down. The my enlarged monk was able to trip him and we ganged up on him. I had a couple of temple bugbears charmed and they kept everyone else occupied while we wailed on Iuz.

The only way I've been able to kill Iuz and Cuthbert is the same way Erkper described.

I beaten Iuz to pulp the first run of ToEE, this means, vanilla ToEE.

No cheats, no tricks, no Fragarach or Scather.
I had a full cleric with the frostbrand, and a dual-wielding cleric/fighter with Meleny's holy longsword, and Lamia's +3 sword. One of each side of him, and my bard buffing/healing them. :gotmyatte

In vanilla I've defeated Iuz without using the Scather/Fragarach. A fighter with a +3 weapon, +6 str gloves and a frost or holy weapon along with both weapon focus feats will do the trick. His AC is 31 and spell resistance is 20 and he only has 300-400 hp IIRC. He also does only about 20 points of damage if he hits and has only 2 attacks.

With Co8's mod I basically did with Erkper did it. He's a monster!

Welcome back HK. I hope you are on the mend.

Are you saying that the DR10/adamantine stacks (which is a "type" of bonus) or just the total amount of absorbable damage?
