    Hi there,

I'm new to all this, have been playing the normal ToEE so far and was always unhappy with the low party size.

So someone recommended me using TFE-X, allowing me to set the amount of PCs. Woot!

I found the option and launched the game, and I was also able to add 7 party members during the party creation .. however, when starting the game I found only 5 standing around in Hommlet.

What am I doing wrong? I altered the value in the TFE-X so it said 7 PCs, 1 NPC (normal is 5/3 iirc) and then picked "save options"

Any help is much appreciated :)

Go up to the options tab and turn on what you want and adjust the party size. The extra members won't show during creation, but will be there when you get to the start. ;)

If you are playing 5.5.0, you should have first gone to the equipment shop and equipped your party with items found and bought from different chests (no shopkeepers).

After the shop, the party goes through the opening vignette which varies based on party alignment, and THEN they arrive in Hommlet.

Did you have 7 at the shop, or only five?

Thanks guys, I probably did something wrong after the install. After redoing everything from scratch, it all works now!

Their is another option for the theme based party.

You can also try the "LODOSS WAR" party(albeit japanese anime),one of the better 'AD&D' type fantasy films around. My dwarf always goes by Gimu/Gimli here and male fighter Parn and elf F/Wz Deedlit etc.

"Record of Lodoss War" - apparently an old fantasy anime. Never seen it myself.

I ran a Type-Moon party (Tsukihime, Fate/stay night) in TOEE once. The magi and the summoned spirits fit neatly into D&D rules. Even the character sheets from F/SN can be transferred to D&D quite easily.

You need to select the increased party option before you launch the game. It is on a drop-down menu at the top of the front end. It is very easily overlooked.

Excuse me for jumping in on this one, but I never managed to get more than 5 members in my party and now I hear of an equipment shop before the opening vignette? Which shop? I am always taken straightly to the vignette. What's wrong?

Sounds to me that you have either not installed the 5.5.0 mod correctly, or you did not Activate it through TFE-X. Let us know how you have installed your game, step by step, and we can help you.

This is how I went about it:

    1) Dl'd official patch 1 and 2
    2) Dl'd Co8 V 5.5.0 beta
    3) Installed ToEE from CD's - not originals, I have to admit.
    4) Run OP 1
    5) Run OP 2
    6) Extracted C08 to the ToEE folder with all procedures listed in the step-by-step guide
    7) Run Co8 V 5.5.0 beta
    8) Used TFE-X to activate Co8 V 5.5.0 beta modpack
    9) Adjusted the various options according to my liking - no, I did NOT forget to set the Max Number of Players in the Party to 8 and save options. Later I tried with 7 and 6, same results.
    10) Launched the game only to discover I had forgotten about being using a copy
    11) Replaced ToEE.exe with the cracked version
    12) Launched the game (through TFE-X, obviously) this time successfully
    13) Spent considerable time creating 8 characters and adding them to party
    14) Started playing to find me straight in the opening vignette with five characters, all but one unarmed
    15) After the OV, talked to the little boy, talked to the drunkard, gone to the inn, tried to add the further 3 PC's there but to no avail (they turn green but do not appear in game)
    16) discovered here there should have been this equipment shop I never saw

I also tried to install some custom portraits following all those step-by-step guides to no avail.

Today I tried uninstalling everything and taking step 11 before using the patches, but the result was the same, game not launchable. After applying the crack all was the same again. I could play, but no shop and no more than 5 party members. I tried also checking and unchecking various options in TFE-X, like the obscure clean game cache on startup, but to no avail.

The only thing I can suppose is that everyone else is using legal, authentic issues and that the problem is there. I would gladly buy one to solve the problem, but I couldn't even find a legal copy over here when I first discovered this game, which was less than a year after it's release. So I resorted to DL it through P2P

Let me add I am by no means a modder, but not a complete imbecile either. Over the years I managed to successfully use mods for Panzer General, Fantasy General, Shadows of Amn, Freedom Force, NWN, JA II... never had problems I couldn't overcome in at most a couple of hours. This instead has been baffling me since Co8 v 4.0.0 which gave the same problems.

Mind you, I could settle for playing with 5 just fine... but if this doesn't work, how do I know the rest will? I would not like to spend several days gaming to find my char's are still limited to level 10, or that new quests are unavailable or malfunctioning.

OK, I hope the description of the procedure was clear enough. Any suggestions?

Hmmm... could be the crack you are using. If you talked to the little kid when you start, then you ARE in the Co8 world. However, if you are using the crack that has temple.dll still inside it, that would sidestep the opening map.

How big is your ToEE.exe in kb?

The cracked one is 3,46 MB. It results last modified on september 17, 2003.
Years ago, when I had the same problem with Co8 V 4.0.0 Cerulean the Blue even sent me his own temple.dll file to paste it in, but to no avail. I understand that I am in Co8, but if altering the party limit does not work then how many other things won't as well?

Don't know if this bears any meaning, but I remember that when I add char's in the inn - I think also in the creation screen but am not 100% sure - I seem able to add MORE than 8; that's to say, 9 or 10 (I stopped there) turn to green. But no more than 5 appear in-game. It's as if the limit was completely removed on selection, completely unaltered in-game.

Sorry to scatter the reply across multiple msg's... I just now saw you asked for the actual ToEE dimension in KB not in MB. It results being 3.629 KB, more precisely 3.629.056 bytes.
